Senioren scheinen im jugendlich, aufstrebenden Litauen nur bedingt auf der Sonnenseite des Aufschwungs zu leben. Häufig trifft man im Stadtbild solche alten Frauen, die Selbstgebasteltes zum Verkauf anbieten. Alte Männer stöbern dafür öfter in Abfallkübeln nach Pfandflaschen. Aber das gehört nun wohl allgemein zum Stadtbild europäischer Großstädte (wie auch die erschreckend anwachsene Zahl Obdachloser).

Das Staatstheater hatte vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg seinen Sitz in Kaunas. Seit 1948 ist es in Vilnius. 1974 wurde das Theater im neuen Palast untergebracht. Seit 1998 ist es Nationaltheater für Oper und Ballett. Seit 2003 gehört es dem internationalen Verband „Opera Europa“ und der ISPA an.
Ich selbst war an einem Vormittag drin im Foyer - angelockt von feinen Klängen: drinnen gab's eine Ausstellung zur Entwicklung des JAZZ. Neben Fotos (Musiker beim Spiel), Lifemusik, Instrumentensammlung bekannter Jazzer gab's einen riesigen Verkaufstisch mit gebrauchten Jazz-LPs. Da musste ich mich echt zusammenreißen ...
