Robbie isn’t with us anymore. This is one of the last pictures I took of him, on one of our last walks. He still had the same spirit as always, but sadly his heart didn’t play ball.

It’s no secret: Robbie likes to take something from his walks –a twig, a fir cone–, but I have never before seen him this ambitious...
The branch was about three meters long. Robbie tried really hard, but had to give up in the end.

Drama? All we see here is a dachshund smelling something. Something? Let’s call it a cat. A cat in a tree. The real drama is the dachshund not knowing where the smell comes from, and not being able to reach its source if he knew.

On my desk is a letter opener out of rarely polished silver. It was a gift from my brother and sister-in-law, and bears the inscription “K 25”, so it’s likely to commemorate something.

Robbie in Neuburg/Donau. He used to live here before we got him, which was the main reason for us not to visit that town. If we do, dogs must have their traumas too, we thought. After more than seven years, the time was ripe to break the spell. We observed him closely: Would he recognize anything? Sometimes, it seemed he did, and sometimes not... Anyway, we’re fairly certain that he doesn’t need therapy.

Part of the fun of taking photographs is to prove that you’ve been somewhere. Well, this picture doesn’t exactly prove that I was in Bressanone, but Robbie clearly was.

Isn’t it nice to see the Alps from the other, the right side?

They say oistriches hide their heads in the sand in case of imminent danger... That may be something for oistriches, not for a fearless dachshund.

However, during many a winter, experience has taught Robbie that the most interesting things can be found under the snow. It’s about 4-6 inches thick, and still comfortable for him. With more snow, he has to move by jumping, which he can’t keep up for long.

Look at him being proud of the three (!) fir cones he’s found...
When nothing serious happens during the last part of our walk (such as a cat or a canine enemy) he’ll bring them home and add them to his very large fir cone collection.
