'The Henry Bell' on the Wetherspoon website

Named after Henry Bell, the Helensburgh engineer whose steamboat Comet revolutionised Clyde travel in 1812, this Wetherspoon pub stands on James Street as a tribute to the town’s early maritime innovation. Bell, Helensburgh’s first Provost and former owner of the Baths Hotel, helped shape the town’s growth as a seaside resort. The pub’s name and signage commemorate his legacy, linking the modern bar to the pioneering spirit that once transformed travel on the Clyde.

Back Door of "The Counting House", a J D Wetherspoon Pub, Anchor Lane, Glasgow

The pub’s official address is 2 St Vincent Place.

It sits on the corner where St Vincent Place meets Queen Street, directly facing George Square.

Although the official Wetherspoon page lists only the St Vincent Place address, the building itself occupies the full corner footprint, and the Queen Street side is an active entrance opposite George Square..

James Lang was one of the Langs of Chapelton. He was born in Dumbarton in 1805, and was educated there. James became a law clerk in the Town Clerk's office, but he later served on the town's steamers. In 1830, he became the captain of one of the Dumbarton Steamboat Company's vessels. He commanded, in succession, the "Dumbarton", the "Leven", the "Prince Albert", the "Lochlomond", and the "Queen". In 1835, he married Agnes MacCallum of Greenock; she was the daughter of Peter MacCallum, founder of P MacCallum & Sons, iron and steel merchants, Greenock. Quoted from the Geograph website
