In the Mogo Wildlife Park. These live in undisturbed rainforests on the Indonesian island of Java, however those are diminishing. Consequently, these have been listed as "endangered" since 2008 with fewer than 2500 adults now believed to be in the wild. (Info from Wikipedia) They are being bred in captivity here.

The ancestors of these animals came from Asia so long ago that their DNA is quite separate from Asian or any other dogs. They are our apex predator, mostly living in the inland desert areas, preying on kangaroos. There is a small population of them in the nearby alpine Namadgi National Park. These have been isolated so long that their DNA is pure…no domestic dog at all, and quite separate from the desert dingoes. There are lots of kangaroos in this park, which offer plentiful food. These dingoes are also longer haired…to manage the cold and snow. They do not bark at all, but have a loud howl! We spotted this by chance when hiking… and it must be quite rare, as my posting on a local wildlife page had 4,600 visits in a week!

An archival photo from my former rural property, I think it's a White Lipped Snake (Drysdalia coronoides). These are venemous but timid by nature.

Emperor dragonfly [Anax imperator] laying eggs on what I think is Potamogeton gramineus [various-leaved pondweed] in a large pond in Norfolk.

I had been trying [and failing] to capture images of either the very territorial male dragonfly or the female flying above the pond. Finally, I managed this image and cropped it "in camera".

This skink lizard was about 300mm (1ft) long. When I double checked my identification of it, I was surprised to find there are over 325 skink species in Australia! The strange lighting effect (most visible in the PiP) is reflected light from a window.

This is an Eastern Blue-tongue lizard. These are the largest members of the skink family and are found across eastern and northern Australia. This one was near my house. They can grow to about 600mm and are harmless, though capable of giving a substantial bite. Most usefully, they eat slugs and snails.

Taken at the "Age of Dinosaurs" museum at Winton, this is their recreation of Australovenator wintoniensis, found locally and given the popular name "Banjo". The museum was created some years ago after a local grazier found dinosaur bones and gained support for ongoing searches, research and a public museum. This whole area is/was dinosaur country! Am Rand einer Wiese fand ich dieses prächtige Exemplar eines Segelfalters (Iphiclides podalirius) und eine Erdhummel (Bombus terrestris) friedlich an Distelblüten saugend. Es war ja auch genug Nektar da für beide und für alle. Der Segelfalter ist ein in Deutschland seltener Falter, der in der aktuellen Roten Liste Deutschland als "gefährdet" geführt wird.

At the edge of a meadow I found this magnificent specimen of a scarce swallowtail (Iphiclides podalirius) and an buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) peacefully sucking on thistle flowers. There was enough nectar for both and for all. The scarce swallowtail is a rare butterfly in Germany and is listed as "endangered" in the current German Red List.

Der Fischotter (Lutra lutra) ist ein an das Wasserleben angepasster Marder, der zu den besten Schwimmern unter den Landraubtieren zählt. Er kommt in fast ganz Europa vor und wird einschließlich Schwanz etwa 130 Zentimeter lang. Der streng geschützte Fischotter gilt in Deutschland noch als gefährdet (Rote Liste Säugetiere Deutschland 2019).
