A midsummer image from the Somerset coast and the Bristol Channel! This is the western end of the long beach at Minehead the vast majority of which consists of Golden Sands.

Groynes are rigid structures built perpendicular to the shoreline, extending from the beach into the water. They are designed to trap sediment and prevent beach erosion caused by long-shore drift, effectively building up the beach to act as a buffer against coastal flooding.

The path behind the fence at the top of the image is shortly after the start of the South West Coast Path , a 630-mile adventure around the coastline of the south-west peninsula. It is a challenging route with, in total, over 115,000 feet (35,000 metres) of up and down.

Während der Berliner Luftbrücke 1948/49 wurden von den Amerikanern auch Flugzeuge vom Typ C-47 Skytrain erfolgreich eingesetzt. Die am Deutschen Technikmuseum Berlin hängende Douglas C-47 Skytrain ist zwar nicht eines der originalen Flugzeuge, die während der Berliner Luftbrücke 1948/49 im Einsatz waren. Es symbolisiert aber eindrucksvoll diesen geschichtsträchtigen Zeitraum. Die Maschine stammt aus dem Baujahr 1945 und war zuletzt eine Dauerleihgabe vom US-Air-Force-Museum in Dayton, Ohio. Inzwischen wurde sie dem Technikmuseum geschenkt.

During the Berlin Airlift in 1948/49, the Americans also successfully deployed C-47 Skytrain aircraft. The Douglas C-47 Skytrain hanging in the German Museum of Technology in Berlin is not one of the original aeroplanes that were used during the Berlin Airlift in 1948/49. However, it impressively symbolises this historic period. The aircraft was built in 1945 and was most recently on permanent loan from the US Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. It has since been donated to the Museum of Technology.

Gesehen durch den Bogen der Richardstraßenbrücke.

In einem Hausboot zu wohnen ist für viele ein Traum, einige Wenige haben ihn verwirklicht - in einer ruhigen Ecke der Hansestadt zwischen Richard- und Wagnerstraße. Der Weg zu diesem besonderen Eigenheim war jedoch kompliziert, langwierig und ziemlich teuer. Allein für den Anschluss der Versorgungsleitungen waren damals (2007) 30.000 € fällig.
Von den 84 eingereichten Anträgen bzw. Entwürfen wählte die Stadt nur 10 aus, diese bekamen einen Pachtvertrag für 50 Jahre. Die Preise für die auf Topniveau gebauten Hausboote lagen bei ca. 1 Million Euro.
Das Schulgebäude (PiP 7) liegt gleich neben den Hausbooten. Es wurde 1928 durch den Hamburger Baudirektor Fritz Schumacher als Gewerbeschule geplant und errichtet.
