Die Laubbäume der Vorberge des Zabelsteins (einer der höchsten Berge des Steigerwalds) erscheinen schon in einem dunklen Grün, es ist nicht mehr so heiß wie in den Wochen vorher und die Obstbäume sind fast alle abgeerntet. Der Herbst kündigt sich an. Das Foto entstand während einer Rundwanderung um den Zabelstein mit Start in Oberschwappach.

The deciduous trees in the foothills of the Zabelstein - one of the highest peaks of the Steigerwald - are already showing a deep shade of green. It is no longer as hot as in the previous weeks, and most of the fruit trees have already been harvested. Autumn is on its way.
The photo was taken during a circular hike around the Zabelstein, starting in Oberschwappach.

Etwa 200 Jahre alt dürfte diese Platane (Platanus acerifolia) im Hofgarten des Schlosses Veitshöchheim sein. Die Geschichte des Gartens beginnt bereits im Jahr 1619. Ab 1760 wurde er für Fürstbischof Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim (ab 1755 Bischof von Würzburg) gestaltet. Die Platanen dürften um 1825 gepflanzt worden sein. Ein wunderschönes Gefühl, sich am Stamm eines solchen alten Baumes auszuruhen und die Sonne zu genießen.

Endlich ist auch bei uns in Unterfranken der Frühling angekommen. In den Gärten zeigen sich blühende Osterglocken und Tulpen. Viele Baumarten sind in voller Blütenpracht. Besonders schön ist zur Zeit auch die Magnolienblüte, wie das Foto einer Sternmagnolie (Magnolia stellata) zeigt, aufgenommen in meinem Wohnort.

Spring has finally arrived here in Lower Franconia. Bloomin daffodils and tulips are appearing in the gardens. Many tree species are in full bloom. The magnolia blossoms are especially beautiful at the moment, as shown in the photo of a star magnolia (Magnolia stellata) taken in my hometown.

Der Tivoli-Pavillon (kurz: Tivoli) ist ein barockes Gartenhaus aus dem 18. Jahrhundert auf der gleichnamigen Bastion im Mainviertel der Altstadt von Würzburg. Es war ursprünglich Teil der Anlagen des Tivoli-Bades. 1968 wurde das Baudenkmal rekonstruiert.
Kaum zu übersehen ist die über 20 Meter hohe Rosskastanie (siehe das PiP). Der Baum mit seinem enormen Stammdurchmesser hat ein stolzes Alter von ca. 200 Jahren. Nach Einschätzung des Gartenamtes zeigt der Baum bereits Anzeichen für ein langsames Sterben und wird möglicherweise dem Klimawandel zum Opfer fallen. Die beiden Fratzenköpfe stammen aus dem 17. oder 18. Jahrhundert.

The Tivoli Pavilion (Tivoli for short) is a baroque garden house from the 18th century on the bastion of the same name in the Main district of the old town of Würzburg. It was originally part of the facilities of the Tivoli baths. The monument was reconstructed in 1968.

Ein Eldorado für Vögel, Fische und viele seltene Pflanzen ist das Naturschutzgebiet Unteres Odertal. Bei meinem Besuch dort konnte ich schon bald den Weißstorch, Schwarzstorch, Kormoran, Kranich und die Grauammer (Emberiza calandra) entdecken. Für Naturliebhaber ist ein Besuch hier fast ein "Muss". Im Bild ein Kormoran, der nach nach dem Fischen sein Gefieder trocknet.

The Lower Oder Valley nature reserve is an Eldorado for birds, fish and many rare plants. During my visit there, I soon spotted the white stork, black stork, cormorant, crane and corn bunting (Emberiza calandra). For nature lovers, a visit here is almost a "must".

Diese alte Robinien (Robinia pseudoacacia) stehen zusammen mit einem Wegkreuz an einer Kreuzung von zwei Feldwegen. Eine Bank steht unter den Bäumen und dient oft Wanderern als schattiger Ruheplatz. Die Robinie stammt aus Nordamerika und wird überall in Europa seit fast 400 Jahren in Parks und Gärten gepflanzt. Sie wächst inzwischen auch wild. Sie war Baum des Jahres 2020 in Deutschland. Die Pflanze, bis auf die Blüten, gilt als stark giftig, besonders die Rinde und die Früchte. Wegen der Giftigkeit für Pferde darf Robinienholz nicht zum Bau von Boxen verwendet werden.
Die Aufnahme entstand an einem Nebeltag bei morgendlichem Sonnenstand.

These old black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia), stand together with a wayside cross at a junction of two country lanes. A bench stands under the trees and often serves as a shady resting place for hikers. The black locust is native to North America and has been planted in parks and gardens throughout Europe for almost 400 years. It now also grows wild. It was Tree of the Year 2020 in Germany. The plant, except for the flowers, is considered highly poisonous, especially the bark and the fruits. Because of its toxicity to horses, robinia wood must not be used to build stalls.

Diese alte Weide steht im Naturschutzgebiet Schlossbergsattel auf den Bergrücken des Steigerwalds, unterhalb der Burgruine Speckfeld und hoch über dem Städtchen Markt Einersheim. Diesen markanten Baum, den man sogar in google earth sehen kann habe ich über die Jahre immer wieder fotografiert. 2013 sah diese Weide noch prächtig aus (siehe PiP 1). Im Jahre 2019 war der Baum am Absterben und ich gab ihm keine lange Lebenszeit (siehe PiP 2). Wie das Hauptbild aber zeigt, hat der Baum den extrem heißen und trockenen Sommer 2022 gut überstanden und es sieht so aus, als ob er sich regenerieren konnte. Drücken wir die Daumen!

This old willow stands in the Schlossbergsattel nature reserve on the ridge of the Steigerwald, below the Speckfeld castle ruins and high above the small town of Markt Einersheim. I have photographed this striking tree, which you can even see in google earth, again and again over the years. In 2013, this willow looked magnificent (see PiP 1). By 2019, the tree was dying and I didn't give it a long life (see PiP 2). However, as the main picture shows, the tree survived the extremely hot and dry summer of 2022 well and it looks like it was able to regenerate. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Diese kleine Marienkapelle bei Willanzheim wurde 1727 auf freiem Feld am Fuße des Steigerwalds erbaut und grüßt den Wanderer schon aus der Ferne. Besonders bemerkenswert sind die wunderschön gewachsenen Bäume, welche bei der Kapelle stehen. Auf der Internetseite willanzheim.de/kultur-geschichte/kirchen findet man noch mehr Informationen. Die Aufnahme erfolgte an einem trüben Wintertag.

This small Lady chapel near Willanzheim was built in 1727 in the open countryside at the foot of the hills of the Steigerwald and greets the hiker from afar. The beautifully grown trees near the chapel are particularly remarkable.

Diese Baumruine (wahrscheinlich eines Apfelbaums) fand ich am Rand eines Trockenrasens. Dieser tote Baumstamm bleibt wahrscheinlich stehen, um als Biotopbaum vielen Insekten, Vögeln und Kleinsäugern gute Lebensbedingungen zu bieten.

I found this tree ruin (probably of an apple tree) at the edge of a dry grassland. This dead tree trunk is probably left standing to provide good living conditions for many insects, birds and small mammals as a biotope tree.

Diese Aufnahme in einem fränkischen Weinberg machte ich vor etwas weniger als einem Jahr. Schnee ist in dieser Gegend eher eine Seltenheit, und wenn Schnee fällt, dann in der Regel nicht allzu viel. An dieser Stelle komme ich bei Wanderungen mit meiner Frau immer wieder vorbei und wir bestaunen die filigranen Zweige und die harmonischen Verzweigungen dieses alten Nussbaums.

I took this photo in a Franconian vineyard a little less than a year ago. Snow is a rarity in this area, and when it does fall, it's usually not too much. I always pass this spot on hikes with my wife and we marvel at the filigree branches and the harmonious ramifications of this old walnut tree.

Im Julius-Echter Schloss in Oberschwarzach (Franken) findet man diesen wunderschönen, im Original erhaltenen Innenhof mit eindrucksvollen Bäumen, darunter eine mächtige Säulenlinde (mehr als 10 m hoch). Zusammen mit den anderen zwei Linden spenden sie einen wunderschönen Schatten. Das Schloss wurde 1614 vom damaligen Fürstbischof Julius Echter als bischöfliches Amtshaus erbaut.
In den PiPs ist eine Ortsansicht von Oberschwarzach und eine Schlossansicht zu sehen.

In the Julius-Echter Castle in Oberschwarzach (Franconia) you will find this beautiful courtyard, preserved in its original state, with impressive trees, including a mighty columnar lime tree (more than 10 m high). Together with the other two lime trees, they provide wonderful shade for visitors. The castle was built in 1614 by the Prince Bishop Julius Echter as an episcopal official residence.
In the PiPs there is a village view of Oberschwarzach and a castle view.

Dieses Prachtexemplar eines Walnussbaumes fotografiere ich bei meinen Wanderungen im Steigerwald immer wieder. Heute zeige ich ein Bild, das an einem Wintertag aufgenommen wurde, bei dem das morgentliche Streiflicht die vertrockneten Wild-Pflanzen am Rand der leicht verschneiten Weinberge aufleuchten lässt.

Again and again I photograph this magnificent specimen of a walnut tree during my hikes in the Steigerwald. Today I show a picture taken on a winter day, when the morning grazing light illuminates the withered wild plants at the edge of the of the lightly snow-covered vineyards.
