Pip1-5: Nahaufnahmen des Schmetterlings

Its wingspan is approximately 28 to 32 mm (a relatively small butterfly), and it has a warm rust-brown to orange coloration. Lighter, yellowish spots are present on the upper sides of the wings. Males also have a dark brown, linear scent patch on the forewings. It has a strikingly broad, "furry" head with widely spaced eyes and antennae with characteristically curved tips. It can be found from May to August and feeds on nectar from various flowers. :))
Pip1-5: Close-up photos of the butterfly

Stoneflies are primarily found in clean, oxygen-rich flowing waters. When at rest, their membranous wings lie flat and tightly folded on their backs. The stonefly's lifestyle is closely tied to water. While the adults live on land, the larvae (nymphs) spend their often multi-year development period entirely underwater. There, they preferentially cling to stones at the bottom of streams and rivers. Stonefly larvae are extremely sensitive to water pollution and low oxygen levels. Finding them in a stream is an excellent bioindicator of very high water quality. The lifespan of the adult, flying stonefly is very short, often lasting only a few days to a few weeks.
Pip 1-6: Close-up images of the stonefly

The wings are usually straw-yellow, beige, or light brown and often crisscrossed with fine, darker longitudinal stripes. This coloration provides perfect camouflage among dry blades of grass! The wingspan is approximately 30 to 38 mm. They are crepuscular and nocturnal. During the day, they remain well camouflaged in the vegetation. They can be found in damp and dry meadows, along roadsides, pastures, and grassy meadows. They feed on nectar from flowers. :))
Pip1-4: Nahaufnahmen der Motte
In males, the hair-thin antennae can be up to four times as long as the entire body. In females, they are significantly shorter. The moth has metallic, bronze to golden-yellow forewings with dark longitudinal stripes and a striking, broad yellow crossband in the posterior third, which has dark edges. They are approximately 16–23 mm long. They are diurnal, especially active on sunny days from May to June/July. Courtship dance: Males often form swarms and perform conspicuous, hovering "dance flights" in the sunlight in front of bushes and treetops to attract females.
Pip1-4: Close-up photographs of the moth

Elles mesurent environ 16 à 23 mm de long.

The fully grown caterpillars are jet black and covered with fine, white dots. They possess distinctive, branched black spines on their bodies, intended to deter predators. Young caterpillars are initially grayish-green to brownish and only turn jet black after molting. Their absolute favorite and primary food plant is the stinging nettle (Urtica dioica). The caterpillars depend almost exclusively on it. After hatching, the caterpillars live together in a self-spun "caterpillar nest" on the nettle. Only shortly before pupation do they disperse as solitary individuals. When threatened, they twitch synchronously as a group or secrete a greenish, unpleasant-tasting gastric fluid to ward off birds and other enemies.
Pip1-6: Close-ups of the caterpillar

It is approximately 5-12 mm long and is easily recognizable by its dense, furry covering. The sexes can usually be distinguished by their color: Males are a striking, bright golden yellow to furry orange; Females are somewhat more subdued, ranging from olive green to grayish-brown. Adult flies are agile predators. They lie in wait on dung or nearby plants for other flies, seize them with their powerful front legs, and suck them dry. As a "sweet treat," they also visit flowers to drink nectar.
Pip1-5: Close-up photos of the fly

Its wings are a bright orange-brown with black, brown, and yellow spots. The wing edges are extremely jagged and look almost "eaten." It owes its name to a small, white marking on the otherwise dark brown undersides of its wings, which looks like the letter C :))
Pip1-3: Close-up photos of the moth
I find these nymphs really interesting in their appearance. Here are a few close-ups of the little one. This nymph emerged from behind this stem, and I was able to follow it very well on its journey. In the last picture, you can really see how tiny it is :))
Cicadas are among the best jumpers in the animal kingdom. When threatened, they can suddenly leap up to 70 centimeters into the air. Considering their body size of just 5 to 7 millimeters, that's an enormous feat. They feed on plant sap, are completely harmless to humans, extremely adaptable, and can be found practically everywhere – in meadows, gardens, and along roadsides. :))
They feed on plant sap, are completely harmless to humans, extremely adaptable, and can be found practically everywhere – in meadows, gardens, and along roadsides. :))

Male carpenter ants, at about 8 to 12 mm, are significantly smaller than the imposing queens (up to 18 mm). Typical characteristics of carpenter ants include their smooth, evenly arched backs and the single scale segment between the thorax and abdomen. Compared to the queens, their heads are often relatively smaller, and their eyes (including three simple eyes on the forehead) are strongly developed for the nuptial flight. Males have no roles in the colony such as nest building, foraging, or brood care. Their sole biological function is to mate with the young queens. :))
Pip1-5: Close-up photos of the ant

They are usually medium-sized (about 7 to 13 mm long) and possess a strikingly elongated abdomen that tapers to a point. Many species are distinguished by dense, often furry or bristly hairs that can shimmer silver, golden brown, or gray. The males have very large eyes that almost touch on their foreheads, while the females' eyes are set significantly further apart. They are usually active from May to August. Unlike robber flies, to which they are related, adult lynx flies generally do not hunt other insects. They feed primarily on water, nectar, plant secretions, or honeydew.
The name "lynx fly" is much more fitting for their larvae. These live in the soil, in sand, or in decaying wood. They are extremely agile, move in a snake-like fashion, and are highly predatory. They hunt other soil-dwelling organisms (such as beetle larvae or pupae), inject them with a paralyzing toxin, and suck them dry.
Pip1-3: Close-ups of the fly

It belongs to the leaf beetle family. At first glance, it resembles a ladybug, but it is significantly more elongated and cylindrical. It has glossy red to orange-red elytra (wing covers) with two prominent black spots each: a large, often transverse spot at the rear and a smaller spot further forward on the shoulder. The pronotum (thorax) and head are deep black and glossy. Adult beetles are usually active from May to August. They are frequently found at forest edges, in meadows, or near bushes.
Pip1-6: Close-up photos of the beetle
