At Rrura Egnatia, Durrës.
Mujo Ulqinaku, born in Ulqin (modern Montenegro) in 1896, became an Albanian Navy officer, known for resisting to the invasion of Italian forces in April 1939. He died on duty and was awarded as People's Hero of Albania.

The Nikolaiturm (Nikolai Tower) is a 45-meter-high medieval fortified tower built before 1250. It marks the entrance to the historic old town. Today, it serves as a public observation and exhibition tower, offering panoramic views of Görlitz.

This castle was built during the Moorish occupation and some changes were ordered by the Portuguese kings since the Middle Ages. During the Restauration War, Spain tried to reconquest cities and towns near the border, besieging Portuguese fortresses. As the garrison of Juromenha Castle was short of elements, some students were mobilised and included in the garrison. On January 19th 1659 a doctor came to see a very sick man in the basement of the Governor house. Realising that the patient was about to die, he asked for a priest to offer the extreme unction to the patient. The students came with one after dark. Using a torch to find their way to the patient, they arrived with the priest, not aware that the place was a gunpowder magazine. A devastating explosion soon occurred, destroying a lot of buildings inside walls and causing over 200 deaths.
On the 21st century the walls and bulwarks have been restored, but not most buildings, still in ruins as the photo shows.

In the 16th century a medieval cistercian convent was adapted to hospital, bearing the name of Saint Scholastica. Some centuries later it was abandoned and demolished. The portal on the wall is the only preserved remain. It can be seen at Calle La Dama, Ávila.

Dozens of trees were broken or knocked down by Kristin in this wood adjacent to the Christ Monument (Cristo-Rei) at Almada.
Far less serious than in central Portugal where pouring rain and wind blows up to 208.8 km/h destroyed a few million trees, some bridges and roads (26 of these are still closed).

Big tree knocked down by wind blow at the Urban Park of Almada. The windstorm Kristin caused more damages in central Portugal, bending or bringing down high voltage posts weighing several tons, walls, roofs, cranes and many structures.

Inspired on a tale of the Grimm Brothers, from Bremen, this statue was achieved by Krista Baumgaertle in 1990 and offered by Bremen to Riga. This city had been founded in 1201 by the Bishop of Livonia, who proceeded from Bremen. The statue is very close to Saint Peter Lutheran Church, at Skārņu iela, Riga.

We had to make a stop of 30 minutes in this border on motorway A1 - mandatory period of rest for the bus driver.
Sun was shining, allowing the final drying of my trousers (soaked with the rainfall at Pärnu beach), and to make some last shopping of Estonian souvenirs.

At King of Denmark's Garden, Tallinn.
There are two other statues of fransciscan ghosts, installed in 2015 by the sculptor Aivar Simson. There is a legend about 3 franciscan ghosts haunting the place and pranking people. This legend inspired the sculptor.

Nikolay Pirogov (1810-1881) was a Russian doctor who developed the Virtual Dissection Table, displaying three-dimensional models of the human body and organs, very useful for surgeons. He made research about the use of anaesthesy, introducing it in surgeries on the battlefield.
