Dozens of trees were broken or knocked down by Kristin in this wood adjacent to the Christ Monument (Cristo-Rei) at Almada.
Far less serious than in central Portugal where pouring rain and wind blows up to 208.8 km/h destroyed a few million trees, some bridges and roads (26 of these are still closed).

Big tree knocked down by wind blow at the Urban Park of Almada. The windstorm Kristin caused more damages in central Portugal, bending or bringing down high voltage posts weighing several tons, walls, roofs, cranes and many structures.

Inspired on a tale of the Grimm Brothers, from Bremen, this statue was achieved by Krista Baumgaertle in 1990 and offered by Bremen to Riga. This city had been founded in 1201 by the Bishop of Livonia, who proceeded from Bremen. The statue is very close to Saint Peter Lutheran Church, at Skārņu iela, Riga.

We had to make a stop of 30 minutes in this border on motorway A1 - mandatory period of rest for the bus driver.
Sun was shining, allowing the final drying of my trousers (soaked with the rainfall at Pärnu beach), and to make some last shopping of Estonian souvenirs.

At King of Denmark's Garden, Tallinn.
There are two other statues of fransciscan ghosts, installed in 2015 by the sculptor Aivar Simson. There is a legend about 3 franciscan ghosts haunting the place and pranking people. This legend inspired the sculptor.

Nikolay Pirogov (1810-1881) was a Russian doctor who developed the Virtual Dissection Table, displaying three-dimensional models of the human body and organs, very useful for surgeons. He made research about the use of anaesthesy, introducing it in surgeries on the battlefield.

Barclay de Tolly was a Baltic-German knight (1761-1818), born in Lithuania, who fought with Russia in the Turkish-Russian War and in the Swedish-Russian War, then becoming General Governor of Finland. During the invasion of Napoleon's army, he was Minister of Land Forces in Russia and field marshall, succeeding in defeating the iinvader.

Spotted at Valka, an international town: part of it is Latvian territory; the other part is Estonian, bearing the name Valga. In some roads or streets sections you can be circulating on Latvia, while vehicles on the opposite direction circulate on Estonia. Or the whole road or street suddenly crosses the border between these countries. There are two municipalities: Valka and Valga. But they cooperate, as the town is shared by both and the town festivities are organized by both sides.

With floor, ceiling, beams and ouside walls in wood. This is a hotel in the forest, with 3 four-storey buildings. It has deliberately no TV, no WiFi, no telephone in the rooms, and no lifts. Luggage is carried in a van from the reception to other buildings, or back, and carried upstairs and downstairs by young men of this hotel in Cēsis.

Behind this tomb there is a sad story:
In 1601, during the war between Poland and Sweden, there was a battle at Turaida, causing many deaths both in soldiers and in civilians. In the aftermath, the doctor of Turaida Castle made a search among the bodies of the victims, trying to find someone injuried. He found a new-born female baby, in the arms of her dead mother. He took the baby and adopted her, calling her Maija. As she grew up she became a pretty maiden, and people knew her as Turaida Rose. She fell in love with Viktor, the castle's gardener, and they used to meet in the Gutman Cave. In 1620 they were decided to get married. Maija received a note signed by Viktor, asking her to meet in the cave. When she arrived, instead of Viktor there was Adam, a Polish soldier that was obsessed in taking her by force, having forged the note as sent by Viktor, knowing they used to meet in the cave.
Refusing to be abused, Maija told him she had a magic scarf that protected its user against any life threat. She would give him her scarf if he let her go. Moreover, she told him to hit her with his sword, to make sure the scarf was really magic. So he did, and Maija died trespassed by the sword, preserving her honour. It caused much grief among Turaida people, and roses were placed on her tomb ever since.
