Plovdiv, formerly Philippopolis, is the second largest city in Bulgaria. It is located in the southern part of the country, in the central part of the fertile Upper Thracian Lowland, on the Maritsa River.
The first settlements within the borders of modern Plovdiv date back to the Neolithic era and are dated around 6,000 BC.
Around 1200 BC, a Thracian settlement called Eumolpia was located here.
In 342 BC, the city was conquered by Philip II of Macedon, who named it Philippopolis in his honor.

This railway line from Llangollen to Cowen is used by the Llangollen Heritage Railway. Here we see the viaduct as it crosses the river Dee. The black and white building above is in fact the Berwyn Railway Station. Best full screen.
