Amager Bakke (Copenhill) is a striking, angular building whose entire mass is wrapped in a shimmering “brick” façade of stacked aluminum panels, giving it an almost pixelated, industrial sculpture look. Its most famous feature is the sloping roof that becomes a full‑length artificial ski slope with green surface in summer and snow in winter, flanked by walking paths and a dramatic outdoor climbing wall on one side. Large, square openings and a clean, minimalistic profile make the plant read more like a contemporary cultural venue or art museum than a conventional incinerator, especially when illuminated at night. Behind this expressive architecture, the facility works as a combined heat‑and‑power plant, turning the city’s non‑recyclable waste into both district heating and electricity for surrounding households.

The Guildhall is a timber framed building, with the earliest part dating from c. 1390. It once acted as the town hall for the city until the current one was commissioned in 1876.

It is reputed that William Shakespeare appeared here in the late 16th century. Part of the Shakespeare legend is that Shakespeare first came across the local tale of King Leir whilst appearing at the Guildhall and this inspired him to write his own play King Lear.

The wall of St Martin's Leicester Cathedral is on the right.

Het Minderbroedersklooster (1461-1996) is een voormalig klooster te Weert, gelegen aan Biest 43. Dit klooster werd in 1461 gesticht door Jacob I van Horne, die daartoe een stuk grond dat behoorde tot Kasteel De Aldenborgh afstond. Na de dood van zijn vrouw trad hij zelf toe tot de orde der Minderbroeders. Van 1512-1526 werd een laatgotische kerk gebouwd, de huidige Paterskerk, welke de plaats innam van de in 1462 ingewijde eenbeukige kerk. In 1566, 1572 en 1578 werden kerk en klooster beschadigd, om in 1586 te worden hersteld. In 1652 werd een Portiunculakapel aangebouwd. Het klooster werd door de Fransen opgeheven in 1797 om in 1836 weer in ere te worden hersteld. Het klooster heeft als zodanig bestaan tot 1996. Daarna bleef de orde tot in 2023 aanwezig in de stad. De Weertse orde werd na 561 jaar opgeheven, omdat een communiteit uit minimaal drie broeders moet bestaan, en in 2021 een van de laatste drie was overleden. De andere twee broeders bleven in de stad wonen.

....liegt versteckt im Alstertal bei der Poppenbütteler Schleuse. Der Gutsbesitzer Albert Henneberg ließ diese Minuiaturburg (im Maßstab 1 : 4) im Jahr 1887 erbauen, nach dem Vorbild der (großen) Burg Henneberg in Thüringen, auf der seine Vorfahren Graf Godebold und Poppo von Henneberg im 11. Jahrhundert residierten.
Diese "Burg" in Hamburg steht unter Denkmalschutz und ist eigentlich ein Gartenhaus. Hamburgs teuerste Einzimmerwohnung hat ca. 43m² Nutzfläche, mit nur einem Wohn-, Schlafraum plus Vollbad (mit Ofenheizung). Dafür musste der neue Eigentümer ca. 1/2 Mill. Euro bezahlen. Wohnen darf er dort aber nicht, denn es gelten dieselben Regeln wie für Schrebergärten. Zur Burg gehören
ca. 3.000 m² Grundstücksfläche, die allerdings unter Naturschutz stehen.

ImSommer 2025 stand eine Notiz in der Zeitung, dass dort 1x wöchentlich ein Gartencafe geöffnet sei. So hatte ich für 1 Tasse Tee Zutritt zum Gelände :-).
