Die Geschichte des Doms lässt sich bis ins Mittelalter zurückverfolgen. Im Jahr 1465 wurde mit dem Bau der Oberpfarr- und Domkirche auf der Spreeinsel begonnen. Im Jahre 1747 veranlasste Friedrich der Große den Baumeister Johann Boumann d. Ä., ein barockes Gotteshaus mit Tambourkuppel zu errichten. Etwa 70 Jahre später wurde es von Karl Friedrich Schinkel im klassizistischen Stil innen und außen neu gestaltet.

Nach mehreren kleineren Umbauten am Berliner Dom beschloss Kaiser Wilhelm II., dass der Bau ihm in seiner bisherigen Form nicht mehr ausreichend prachtvoll erscheint. Im Jahr 1894 fällt die Entscheidung, dem Entwurf des Dombaumeisters Julius Carl Raschdorff zu folgen, der den Abriss des alten Doms vorsah. Die ehemalige Hof- und Domkirche der Hohenzollern wurde unter Kaiser Wilhelm II. in den Jahren 1894 bis 1905 neu errichtet.

Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Dom schwer beschädigt. Erst 1975 wurde mit dem Wiederaufbau begonnen, wobei sich der Dom auf DDR-Gebiet befand. Dabei wurden einzelne Bauelemente verändert und die ursprünglich zum Dom gehörende Denkmalskirche, die etwa ein Drittel der Grundfläche ausmachte, abgerissen.

Ursprünglich wies der Dom eine Länge von 114 Metern, eine Breite von 73 Metern sowie eine Höhe von 114 Metern auf und bot 2100 Sitzplätze. Aufgrund der während der SED-Diktatur 1975 abgerissenen Denkmalskirche, die etwa ein Drittel der Grundfläche ausmachte, der vereinfacht wiederaufgebauten Kuppel und der in die Predigtkirche versetzten Prunksarkophage ist er heute 90 Meter lang, 98 Meter hoch und bietet 1390 Sitzplätze. Die Kuppel weist einen Durchmesser von 33 Metern auf. Mit einer Grundfläche von 6270 Quadratmetern repräsentiert sie die größte evangelische Kirche Deutschlands.

Neben Gottesdiensten wird er auch für Staatsakte, Konzerte und andere Veranstaltungen genutzt.

Often mistaken for Leicester castle because of its medieval-looking castellated frontage this is actually Leicester Category B Prison on Welford Road opened in 1828! The real Leicester Castle dates from 1068 becoming a royal residence in the 14th & 15th century but only the Great Hall survives today and it's not here! The Tigers Rugby stadium is visible far right BTW.

The journalist William Cobbett, who wrote about his journeys around England in the early 19th century, criticised the people of Leicester for being proud of their new prison, feeling that it would be more praiseworthy to have an absence of crime!

The last public execution at Leicester Prison took place on 25 July 1856, when an estimated crowd of 25,000 gathered to watch the hanging in front of this gatehouse.

Questo è il Castello dei Clavesana.
Eretto su un poggio sovrastante il borgo medievale di Castelvecchio, la primaria struttura quadrangolare con torri fu edificata dai marchesi di Clavesana nel corso dell'XI secolo. Sede marchionale dei Del Carretto dal XIV secolo, venne duramente danneggiato dall'assedio dei soldati della Repubblica di Genova nel 1672. Nel 1844 la proprietà sul castello passò alla famiglia Del Carretto del ramo di Balestrino, poi ai Malco nel 1879 e ai Del Conte dal 1997 che ne hanno curato un nuovo restauro.
Dal maniero è particolarmente suggestiva la visuale sul borgo e sull'intera vallata.

Enkhuizen - Drommedaris

De Drommedaris is de zuidelijke toegangspoort van de stad Enkhuizen. Het is het bekendste gebouw in Enkhuizen.

Het gebouw is neergezet als verdedigingswerk bij de ingang van de Oude Haven, en bevond zich oorspronkelijk op de Westfriese Omringdijk; deze liep vanuit het noorden via de Breedstraat verder langs de Zuiderdijk. Het stuk dijk vlak bij de Drommedaris is later afgegraven voor de aanleg van de Buitenhaven. De geschutskelder en de ruimte op de begane grond dateren uit 1540 en waren het oorspronkelijke bouwwerk. De beide ruimtes bevatten kanonsgaten langs de wanden in nissen waar kanonnen stonden die de havens konden bestrijken. De bovenste ruimte heeft een ribgewelf. Boven het gebouw op het dak stond een bouwsel met daarin gevangeniscellen die nog steeds op de eerste etage in het huidige gebouw zijn terug te vinden. Boven de poort is een cel voor ter dood veroordeelden waar in het eikenhouten beschot jaartallen en soms gedichten zijn gekerfd. Buiten boven de ingang van deze poort was in witte steen het wapen van de Keizer uitgehouwen met eronder de tekst: "Salig is de Stad en hoog gepresen, die peist om oorlog in tijdt van vrede." In een houten klokkenstoel op het dak hing een luidklokje om het sluiten van de poort aan te kondigen.

Station Enkhuizen (afkorting Ekz) is het spoorwegstation in de Westfriese stad Enkhuizen. Het station dateert uit 1885 en is gelegen aan de in datzelfde jaar geopende spoorlijn (Zaandam –) Hoorn – Enkhuizen.

Het gebouw is uitgevoerd als kopstation en werd in op 6 juni 1885 geopend, tegelijk met de ingebruikname van de spoorlijn tussen Hoorn en Enkhuizen. Het ligt aan het water, naast de kade waar de veerboot van de Veerdienst Enkhuizen - Stavoren naar Stavoren in Friesland aanlegde. In de eerste helft van de twintigste eeuw werden vanaf hier ook goederenwagons verscheept, de HIJSM onderhield een dagelijkse verbinding door middel van een stoompont.

1907 errichtet (Fertigstellung 1908), spielte diese Fabrik eine zentrale Rolle im wirtschaftlichen Aufschwung der Stadt.
Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg fiel die Fabrik unter die Kontrolle der sowjetischen Besatzungsmacht. Ein Großteil der Maschinen wurde als Reparationsleistung abgebaut und in die Sowjetunion gebracht.
In der DDR-Zeit wurde der Betrieb als Genossenschaftsspinnerei Malchow in die zentral geplante Wirtschaft eingegliedert und in den 1970iger Jahren komplett verstaatlicht.
Mit der deutschen Wiedervereinigung und den wirtschaftlichen Veränderungen der frühen 1990er Jahre kam das endgültige Aus für den TextilstandOrt. Die Produktion wurde eingestellt und die Gebäude verfielen zunehmend.
Heute erinnern die denkmalgeschützten Industriegebäude der ehemaligen Becker & Co. Tuchfabrik an die Zeit, in der Malchow als Zentrum der Textilproduktion in Mecklenburg bekannt war.
Aktuell bemüht sich die Malchower Stadtverwaltung um eine neue Nutzung der historischen Gebäude.

In 1399 Workum received city rights and with that the right of mint and measure. In the 15th century, a weigh house was built. The weighmaster supervised the correct weights and measures. The Waag was mainly used for trading butter and cheese.

In 1649, the weigh house was in very poor condition. The city council therefore decided to replace the it with a new building. A year later, a fine new weigh house was built in the center of the city on the Merk; the present building. The building has a hipped roof with a stepped gable dormer on each side. There are also coats of arms in the facades, including the municipal coat of arms with the year 1650.

In 1923, the Waag was restored. The lower floor served as a police station and the upper floor became a library and public reading room. After a new restoration in 2007, the building is used by the Tourist Information Centre and Museum Warkums Erfskip.
