Ein Krake hat drei Herzen.
Zwei pumpen das Blut durch die Kiemen, das dritte versorgt den restlichen Körper.

Er besitzt ein zentrales Gehirn und große Nervenzentren in jedem seiner acht Arme – vereinfacht wird deshalb oft von neun Gehirnen gesprochen.

Ein großer Teil seines Nervensystems ist über den gesamten Körper verteilt.

Seine Arme bewegen sich nicht einfach nur:
Sie erkunden, berühren, schmecken und verarbeiten Informationen.

Ein Krake kann lernen.

Wild lebende Kraken werden mit Reusen und Fallen, Netzen, Haken, Leinen, Schleppnetzen oder Speeren sowie mit bloßen Händen gefangen. Die Methode hängt von der Region und der Art der Fischerei ab.

Bei der traditionellen Küstenfischerei kann ein Krake aufgespießt und wiederholt gegen Felsen geschlagen werden. Dies wird häufig als Methode beschrieben, das Tier zu töten und gleichzeitig sein Fleisch weichzuklopfen.

Andernorts werden Kraken auf den Kopf geschlagen, zwischen den Augen aufgestochen, ihr Mantel wird umgestülpt, sie werden auf Eis gelegt oder einfach außerhalb des Wassers liegen gelassen, bis sie geschwächt ersticken.

Es gibt keinen weltweit einheitlichen und angewandten Standard für eine humane Tötung wild gefangener Kraken ◑︿◐
