Most probably there was already a church here in the 6th century. This is because a Bishop of Lisieux existed around that time. A previous cathedral, built in the Romanesque style, was unfortunately burned down in 1136. The basic shape of the church, especially the front part, stayed the same. Rebuilding of the cathedral started around 1160. In 1226, another fire damaged the cathedral. During the repairs three small chapels were added to the back of the church.

Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Lisieux survived World War II completely unharmed. This is quite amazing, as the town of Lisieux itself suffered from allied bombing in 1944.

In 790 it became a major center of the Carolingian Empire when Charlemagne appointed his close friend, Angilbert, as abbot.

At the end of the 9th century, the abbey was destroyed by Norman invaders. Over the centuries, it suffered more than fifteen pillages and devastations. Yet, always rebuilt and enriched, the abbey remained an important religious and theological center.

After the Revolution, the convent buildings were for a time turned into quarries, then later housed hospitals or seminaries. The entire site was purchased in 1972 by the Department of the Somme and became a cultural center.

You are participating in a monumental, groundbreaking experiment, the results of which will forever change the world!
Wow. What's the experiment?
To put it simply so you will understand: the dissemination of sexually-transmitted diseases through an inflatable doll!
Sexually. . . ?
Are you, eh, a virgin, by any chance?
Well, uh, I guess so.
Excellent! Here, blow this up.
Ok. Wait, are you holding a needle?
Not to worry! It's only a small injection.
Inject. . . . Am I going to get sick?
Who knows? That's why they invented penicillin! No permanent damage (I think)!

I'm thinking it'll be about creating stuff from the fruits of the earth, Detroit industry, and the workers who make everything.
Sounds amazing. You think a big industrialist like him will go for art from a commie pinko like you?
We'll see, won't we. But my wife Frida, she likes the idea.
Ms. Kahlo is gonna be there too?
Oh yeah. She'll be painting her own stuff.
Great! Wouldn't it be nice if she makes it one day, like you have?
That would be very cool, yeah.
Yeah, maybe.

Kind of an unexpected bonus, like.
Yeah, maybe.
</media:text>
