Viele Menschen möchten gern verantwortlich und enkeltauglich handeln, aber wer die eigenen Inkonsequenzen leugnet, ist nicht authentisch und stößt schnell an die Grenzen der Belastbarkeit. Wer sich vom Mehr-haben-wollen verabschieden möchte, hat sich zunächst einzugestehen, selbst vom Gier-Syndrom infiziert zu sein und etwa seinen ökologischen Fußabdruck permanent um ein Vielfaches zu übertreten.“

Dessen Überquerung gilt als großes Ereignis. Das Schiffshorn tutet mehrfach und etwas später wird mit großem Hallo die Polarkreistaufe begangen - ein Vorgang mit viel Eis (PiP) und ein wenig Schnaps. Normalerweise vielleicht etwas unangenehm, doch bei Temperaturen um die 30° eher eine willkommene Erfrischung. Ich habe mich gleich zweimal angestellt ...
Das zweite PiP gibt die Wetterinformationen vom Vortag ...

From the stone walls of Passu, in far north Pakistan. The background is the Passu Cones or Cathedrals, part of the Karakoram Range and around 6000m in height. The Hunza River.makes its way through.
This was a few weeks ago…the river is now in flood and contributing to the floods which are devasting thr north of Pakistan. The main reason for the flooding is global warming….Pakistan has 13,000 glaciers and increased temperatures are melting them, causing glacial floods and outbursts, which are devastating homes, crops, animals and lives. Our own much loved community has been badly affected.

Our world is rapidly changing!
This, my offering for this auspicious day, is a dry look at our usually full to the brim Greenfield Reservoir in the NW of England. I am about 300 meters further down from the edge of the water, where I have taken this same view many times before, but never in my life have I seen it as low as this. With no prospect of heavy rain over the next weeks, the outlook is bleak for our farmers and wildlife in an area well known for its constant wet weather.
Ps this is our drinking water.

Der Perito Moreno-Gletscher galt lange Zeit als die große Ausnahme- ein Gletscher, der nicht zurückgeht.

Regelmäßig schoben sich seine Eismassen auf die davor liegende Halbinsel, stauten das Wasser des Brazo Rico auf und irgendwann brach der vordere Teil des Gletschers mit großem Getöse unter dem Wasserdruck zusammen.

A week after a major rain event on the east coast of Australia (still causing flooding problems further north), this dust storm blew across from South Australia where a serious drought is occurring. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology notes "State of the Climate 2024 has indicated that there has been a shift towards drier conditions across southern Australia, especially for the cool season months from April to October."

With the failure of worldwide governments (not least ours in Australia) to take the actions needed to limit anthropogenic climate change, today is a worldwide day of protest at the need to do more. These schoolchildren were among the crowd of about 600 people of all ages at our local event - good for a small community. The PiPs show more images. There were speakers on the back of the white vehicle.

Taken out on the plains of western Queensland, somewhere between Betoota and Birdsville. This area is now under vast flooding - about 1 million sq km, link to map from "The Guardian" : four times the size of the United Kingdom, larger than France and Germany combined, and larger than Texas. This is the largest flood in this area on record and follows an extreme weather event with many places having more than their annual total rainfall in four days. Because the area is so large and flat, the floods are likely to take months to flow away inland to Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre..

In the very high altitude mountain communities of remote Baltistan near the border with India, autumn brings time to collect and store commodities for the bitterly cold, long winters, with temperatures reaching -40°C. Women climb about the rocky, steep hillsides searching for winter stores of wood, their only fuel.
It is backbreaking work that they perform day after day…as well as the cooking, laundry, home chores etc.
