Cette chapelle se mérite : située à 352 m d'altitude dans le massif du Cap Sicié sur la commune de Six-Fours-les-Plages. Cette photo est prise au début de l'office de 16 h le vendredi 15 mai. Elle est ouverte tous les jours du mois de mai.

In 1619, King Louis XIII granted the Jesuits the land on which the present church stands. Commissioned by the order, the church was built between 1627 and 1641 as the monastery church under the direction of the Jesuit architects Étienne Martellange and François Derand. Its design was strongly modeled on the Jesuits' mother church, Il Gesù, in Rome.So iIt was the first church in Paris to break away entirely from the Gothic style and to use the new Baroque style.

In 1762, after a dispute with the King, the Jesuits were expelled from France. The church was transferred to another religious order, but the church continued to have a close relationship with the royal family; the urns containing the hearts of Louis XIII and Louis XIV were kept in the church. The urns were hidden during the French Revolution, and afterwards were transferred to the Abbey of Saint Denis.

During the French Revolution, 5 priests were killed in the church during the September Massacres. The church was closed and turned into a storehouse and a temple of the Cult of Reason and the Supreme Being, before being restored to Catholicism in 1802.

Cet effet est obtenu avec la technique du zooming à la prise de vue. Avec une pose assez longue (6 s) j'ai effectué d'abord un zooming, puis une pose de 1,5 s, et enfin un dezooming. Le PIP vous montre la même image faite juste avant, sans effet. J'aime beaucoup l'église Saint-Nazaire qui ressort bien de cette surenchère d'illuminations.

The cathedral had been erected between 1163 and 1250. Then the transepts seemed old fashioned and got rebuilt. This was finally done in 1363.
This facade had been completed in 1225, the towers and the rose window in 1250. At that time Saint Denis was already 60 years old - elegant Laon about 10 years.
In 1793 the cathedral was dedicated to the Cult of Reason, later to the Cult of the Supreme Being, before is was just used as a warehouse for the storage of food.

On 15 April 2019, a structural fire broke out in the roof space of Notre-Dame. The fire destroyed the cathedral's wooden spire and most of the wooden roof and severely damaged the cathedral's upper walls. The vaulted stone ceiling largely contained the burning roof as it collapsed, preventing extensive damage to the interior.

The cathedral was then closed immediately. Two days after the blaze, President of France Emmanuel Macron set a five-year deadline to restore it. By September 2021, donors had contributed over €840 million to the rebuilding effort. Notre Dame reopened in December 2024, but the work is not completely finished..

The first place of worship on the site was a small oratory founded in the 5th century to commemorate a meeting of Saint Germanus with Saint Genevieve. This chapel was replaced by a large church around 600. That church was destroyed by the Normans in 886, rebuilt by King Robert II the Pious. By the 13th century, it was again considered too small, and was enlarged further. Further changes and additions were made in the 15th and 16th centuries. The current structure is largely from the 15th century,

During the Wars of Religion, its bell was rung on the night of 23 August 1572, which signaled the beginning of the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre. Thousands of Huguenots, who were visiting Paris for a royal wedding, were killed by the city's mob.

During the French Revolution, the church was closed, pillaged, and converted into a barn for storing feed for animals, a printing shop, and a gunpowder factory at various times. The building was returned to the Catholic Church in 1801, but suffered again during an anticlerical riot in 1831, when many paintings, funeral monuments, and windows were damaged or destroyed.

After 1 September 2019, following the serious fire at Notre-Dame, the cathedral's services were temporarily transferred to Saint-Germain.

In 754, the place was called "Pons Icauna" referring to the settlement at a (wooden) bridge over the Yonne River. A stone bridge existed in 1175, it got reconstructed in the 17th century and destroyed during the Second World War. Only three arches remain

Notre-Dame Church is one of the first Gothic churches in France. It was built at the same time as Sens Cathedral (15km south) and to whose chapter it falls.
Construction began between 1130 and 1140. The church was consecrated to the Virgin Mary in 1169 by William of Champagne, Archbishop of Sens.

Moulins experienced its golden age in the 15th century, when the Dukes of Bourbon resided in the town and when the nearby monasteries, especially Souvigny, developed into spiritual and cultural centers alongside the political center of Moulins.

The parish of Saint-Nicolas was founded in 1751 in the heart of the riverboatmen's quarter. Its church is the former Dominican monastery, built at the beginning of the 15th century.

In 1839, Abbot Martinet decided to build a new church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Initially, a Romanesque-style design was proposed, but in the end, a neo-Gothic style was chosen. The vault reaches a height of 24 meters, while the two towers on the façade rise 74 meters

Today, Gannat has about 5,500 inhabitants

The church is located outside the city center in the suburb of Saint-Étienne, surrounded by a graveyard.
It is said, that the church was built in the early 10th century by Benedictine monks on the site of a Gallo-Roman temple. It is Romanesque but got remodeled several times.

No documents relating to the construction of the Romanesque church have survived. It is possible that the church was connected to the motte of the Duke of Bourbon. Essential elements of the Romanesque church have been preserved in the apse and choir of the present church. Its style dates it to the late 12th century. Just one century later, the church was expanded in the Gothic style, and by the 16th century, chapels had been added to the side aisles and the ambulatory.

Notre-Dame is the present parish church of Aigueperse

The first construction work dates back to 1016. However, it only acquired its final form at the end of the 12th century, when the chancel and transept were built in their present form. It is considered the first Gothic building in the Auvergne. In 1253, it was elevated to the status of a collegiate church.

The church was completely restored in 1865. The nave and facade were rebuilt in 1880, replacing a nave that had been reconstructed in 1734 after its collapse in 1727. A new bell tower north of the transept replaced the one destroyed during the French Revolution.

A settlement likely existed along the Roman road from early times, but rural life only truly developed after Saint-Chaffre du Monastier founded a priory there. Thanks to its geographical location, the town became a trading center. Wine, leather, fabrics, and wool were traded at the market established in 1336. Merchants gradually settled in the town, and the population grew. In 1568, the Huguenot captain Merle and his 9,000 men plundered and destroyed the town. It had to be rebuilt.

Today, Langogne is a rural town with about 2,800 inhabitants. In the 1950s, it had a population of over 4,000. The population decline is clearly visible. Empty shops and abandoned stores dominate the streetscape.

The church of Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais was built in the 12th century by monks from Saint-Chaffre. It was destroyed in the 16th century during the Huguenot Wars when much of the monastery was burned down, and the church was severely damaged. The restoration brought about profound changes. The portal was completely redesigned in the Flamboyant Gothic style.

La Canourgue developed around a Benedictine monastery, which was founded as early as the 7th century and grew ever larger through donations.

The narrow streets in the old town center, with their houses built of fieldstone and half-timbered construction, convey a medieval impression.

St. Martin, the former abbey and later collegiate church, is located at the "Place au Ble" forms the center of the town.
