In a natural glacier cave at approx. 2,500 metres above sea level. Above it, millions of tonnes of ice. In January, when there is less movement in the ice due to severe frost, the risk of such expeditions is lower. (Pictured is my wife. Illumination with 4 LED lights 5,600K + 1 headlamp)

In einer natürlichen Gletscherhöhle auf ca. 2.500 Metern Seehöhe. Darüber Millionen Tonnen Eis. Im Januar, wenn bei starkem Frost weniger Bewegung im Eis ist, ist das Risiko solcher Expeditionen geringer. (Im Bild meine Frau. Illumination mit 4 LED-Leuchten 5.600K + 1 Stirnlampe)

These boulders of ice travelled through the glacier for several centuries before coming to ground here in the ablation zone. In the depths of winter, it is quiet there. But such formations serve as a reminder of the constant need for caution. (The cave entrance is in the background on the left.)

Diese Eisbrocken waren mehrere Jahrhunderte im Gletscher unterwegs, bis sie hier in der Zehrzone zu Boden gingen. Im tiefen Winter ist es still dort. Aber solche Gebilde erinnern an die stets nötige Vorsicht. (Im Hintergrund links die Höhleneingang.)

(Winter is taking a break here at the moment. But there will certainly still be many cold days here in February).

Arrived just in time: My new XT spikes for the Vertical Up on February 25, 2023. The additional prongs on the toe make it easier to climb extremely steep terrain. (The Ski World Cup slope at the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel has a gradient of up to 85%).

Rechtzeitig angekommen: Meine neuen XT-Spikes für das Vertical Up am 25. Februar 2023. Die zusätzlichen Zacken an der Fußspitze erleichtern den Aufstieg in extrem steilem Gelände. (Die Ski-Worldcup-Piste am Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel hat bis zu 85 % Steigung.)

19 August 1839 is the birthday of photography. Since then, we have been able to document the changes in the world.

And so today, on World Photography Day 2022, I would like to publish a photo that can be a document of time. It shows the glacier Rofenkarferner (3,000 - 3600m), a dying glacier in the Ötztal Alps (Tyrol, Austria).

Der 19. August 1839 ist der Geburtstag der Fotografie. Seitdem sind wir in der Lage, die Veränderungen der Welt zu dokumentieren.

Und so möchte ich heute, zum Weltfotografietag, ein Foto veröffentlichen, das ein Zeitdokument sein kann. Es zeigt den Rofenkarferner (3.000 - 3600m), einen sterbenden Gletscher in den Ötztaler Alpen (Tirol, Österreich).
