Een brug over een van de zanderijsloten tussen Huizen en Naarden. Gebouwd in 1912-1913 naar ontwerp van architect Karel de Bazel.

De brug is in 2008 zwaar beschadigd door een aanrijding en nadien heropgebouwd.

Landgoed De Beek ligt aan de rand van Bussum. Het is ontworpen in de zogeheten ‘landschapsstijl’ door tuinarchitect Zocher en heeft een sterk reliëf. Dat komt omdat er zeer diep moest worden gegraven om de waterpartijen permanent van grondwater te voorzien.

De geschiedenis van Landgoed de Beek en het aangrenzende Oud Bussem loopt terug tot 1570. In 1570 schonken de besturen van Naarden en de Gooise dorpen het gehele landgoed Oud Bussem inclusief de Beek aan Paulus van Loo, de Baljuw van Gooiland. Het landgoed maakte vroeger, evenals Oud Bussem, deel uit van het Bosch van Bredius. Vooral de "beek" die door dit landschap stroomt, zorgde voor een hoge aantrekkingskracht van dit gebied.

Het landgoed had in de 17e en 18e eeuw een formele aanleg, gebaseerd op de Franse tuinarchitectuur met geometrische vormen, lanen en sterrenbossen.

In het midden van de achttiende eeuw werd begonnen met zandafgravingen voor onder andere wegenaanleg en woningbouw in Amsterdam. Hiertoe werden zanderijsloten gegraven die aansloten op andere waterwegen. Bij de aanleg van de bostuin rondom huize De Beek werd gebruikgemaakt van deze zanderijsloten, maar ook van de natuurlijke overgang van hoog naar laag. Het kwelwater dat ter plekke uit de beekbodem kwelt heeft waarschijnlijk tot de naam van landgoed De Beek geleid.

Ondanks de compleet menselijke oorsprong van dit landschap van afgravingen, kanalen en sloten, en parkaanleg, wordt het gebied toch gezien als een stuk natuur.

Een foto van de bossen rond Rijen. De bemoste heuveltjes die boven de dode bladeren uitsteken zijn resten van grote vuurputten uit begin 19e eeuw.

Ten tijde van de opstand van de Belgen lag hier een enorm cavalerie kamp. Ongeveer ter grootte van de stad Breda. De vuurputten zijn hier de duidelijkste overblijfselen van. Op het actuele hoogtebestand van Nederland kan je ook de vierkante heuveltjes herkennen waar de tenten op hebben gestaan.

Aan de andere kant van de provinciale weg, op het terrein van de luchtmachtbasis, vind men nog resten van enkele schansen die zijn opgeworpen ter verdediging van het legerkamp.

Entre pinos y tierra roja, este árbol florece sin prisa, como quien conoce el ritmo secreto de la isla.
No es una postal, sino un encuentro:
un árbol que respira luz,
un instante suspendido en el aire claro,
un recordatorio de que el tiempo avanza incluso cuando no lo vemos.
Lo comparto para quienes aún esperan la primera señal de primavera.

El pino autóctono resistió,

Lo que quedó no es casualidad.
