Een foto van de bossen rond Rijen. De bemoste heuveltjes die boven de dode bladeren uitsteken zijn resten van grote vuurputten uit begin 19e eeuw.

Ten tijde van de opstand van de Belgen lag hier een enorm cavalerie kamp. Ongeveer ter grootte van de stad Breda. De vuurputten zijn hier de duidelijkste overblijfselen van. Op het actuele hoogtebestand van Nederland kan je ook de vierkante heuveltjes herkennen waar de tenten op hebben gestaan.

Aan de andere kant van de provinciale weg, op het terrein van de luchtmachtbasis, vind men nog resten van enkele schansen die zijn opgeworpen ter verdediging van het legerkamp.

Mientras en otros lugares el invierno sigue cerrando las ventanas, aquí se abre el primer gesto de la estación nueva.
Entre pinos y tierra roja, este árbol florece sin prisa, como quien conoce el ritmo secreto de la isla.
No es una postal, sino un encuentro:
un árbol que respira luz,
un instante suspendido en el aire claro,
un recordatorio de que el tiempo avanza incluso cuando no lo vemos.
Lo comparto para quienes aún esperan la primera señal de primavera.

En los años 40, el hombre trajo pinos extranjeros a estas laderas,
de crecimiento rápido, obedientes, rentables –
y ardientes como el recuerdo.

Cuando llegó el fuego, lo recibieron sin resistencia.
El pino autóctono resistió,
y el laurisilva cien metros más arriba se quedó intacto,
silencioso e inmune a la impaciencia humana.

Lo que quedó no es casualidad.
Es la huella de una intervención,
que no entendió el lenguaje del paisaje.

Für Überraschungen ist die Anna-Schlucht am Stadtrand von Würzburg gut. Denn man verbindet Würzburg eher mit dem Fluss Main und einer Rebenlandschaft. Durch die Anna-Schlucht führt ein wildromantischen Weg mit Treppenpartien und kleinen Brücken. Die Schlucht ist über 500 Meter lang, der Weg überwindet etwa 150 Höhenmeter. Durch die Schlucht fließt ein kleiner Bach, der zeitweise nur im untern Abschnitt Wasser führt. Bei schlechtem Wetter wird von einer Begehung abgeraten. Die Anna-Schlucht ist seit 1941 ein Naturdenkmal.

The Anna Gorge on the outskirts of Würzburg is full of surprises. After all, Würzburg is more commonly associated with the Main River and vineyard landscapes. A wild and romantic path with stair sections and small bridges winds through the Anna Gorge. Stretching over 500 meters, the trail overcomes around 150 meters of elevation. A small stream runs through the gorge, though it only carries water in its lower section at times. It is advised to avoid the path in bad weather. Die Riedholzwiese bei Grettstadt ist Teil eines Naturschutzgebietes. Auffällig sind die vielen Erdeinbrüche (Dolinen), aufgrund des relativ leicht wasserlöslichen Keupergipses im Untergrund und die zahlreichen Sandbirken (Betula pendula). Hier kann man im Frühjahr eine Reihe von blühenden geschützten Pflanzenarten finden, z.B. die rosablütige Mehlprimel (Primula farinosa), siehe PiP2.

The Riedholz Meadow near Grettstadt is part of a nature reserve. It is notable for its numerous sinkholes (dolines), caused by the relatively easily soluble Keuper gypsum in the underground, and for the many silver birch trees (Betula pendula). In spring, you can find a variety of blooming protected plant species here, such as the pink-flowered bird’s-eye primrose (Primula farinosa), see PiP2.
The PiP1 shows a view of the nature reserve from the west.

Das Naturschutzgebiet Riedholz und Grettstädter Wiesen befindet sich in Unterfranken. Es besteht aus einer teils moorigen Wiesenfläche sowie dem Auwald „Riedholz“ im weitgehend baumfreien Schweinfurter Becken entlang des Unkenbaches. Durch das Naturschutzgebiet verläuft ein Naturlehrpfad. Im Auwald findet keine Bewirtschaftung und keine Holzentnahme statt, sodass man als Wanderer den Eindruck eines Urwaldes hat. Im Bild und im PiP umgefallene tote Baumriesen. Im Vordergrund links befinden sich Märzenbecher.

The Riedholz and Grettstadt Meadows Nature Reserve is located in Lower Franconia. It consists of a partially marshy meadow area and the riparian forest "Riedholz" in the largely treeless Schweinfurt Basin along the Unkenbach stream. A nature trail runs through the reserve. In the riparian forest, there is no management or timber removal, so as a hiker, you get the impression of a primeval forest. The photo and the PiP show fallen giant dead trees. In the foreground on the left are spring snowflakes.

Wir erleben zurzeit bei uns in Franken einen bislang schneearmen Winter gepaart mit einer an manchen Tagen knackigen Kälte. Doch hin und wieder gibt es auch sonnige Tage, wie im Foto zu sehen ist. Ein guter Grund für einen Winterspaziergang.

We are currently experiencing a winter with little snow here in Franconia, combined with crisp cold on some days. However, there are also occasional sunny days, as seen in the photo. A good reason for a winter walk.
