Part of the roadside life in the US are the convenience stores that have largely replaced gas stations. You get it all there now, including questionable "hot dogs".

This heated roller seems to run 24/7. I am very unsure about buying an item from there.

On the other hand, the sandwiches kept in the cooler have been trustworthy.

Hoy el destino nos llevó a la Pulpería Francisco Potel, una de esas joyas familiares donde el pulpo a feira sabe a tradición de generaciones. Entre el bullicio de la feria —gaitas, cabezudos y el gentío en los restaurantes—, dimos con un puesto a la española como los de la infancia: pulpos enteros, churrasco, vino propio y el mejor pulpo que hemos probado nunca. Servido en cuncas de cerámica blanca, donde el Albariño se mantiene fresco y cada sorbo sabe a Galicia auténtica.

Y luego, la guinda: una familia de carpinteros cultos con los que charlamos de Suiza, Tenerife, Galicia… y de esa verdad universal que todos compartimos: el sueño de jubilarse lo antes posible. Conversaciones largas, vino fino y risas que no se pagan con dinero.

Esto es Cambados sin filtros: buen pulpo, mejor compañía y el alma gallega en cada detalle.

Taverna Elatos is a nice restaurant with a large outdoor area near the harbour. Even in February it is warm enough here to have dinner outside.

As far as we can tell, Taverna tis Alexandra serves authentic, delicious Greek food. And, just like in Cyprus, a ‘proper’ pork chop weighs here at least 600g.

"Throumbi sti Ladokolla" is an odd name for this small restaurant, as it translates to "Sourdough in Parchment Paper". The menu is concise, the prices are fair and everything is freshly prepared.

The restaurant Fourogatos is located right by the sea, and claims to present dishes "deeply rooted in traditional Cretan cuisine with a creative twist that makes each plate unique". I cannot judge that, but it was very delicious.

"To Havesilik" has been my favourite restaurant ever since my first visit there. I spent two long evenings there again this year. The food is absolutely delicious and the house wine is good value for money. There’s live music too. Most of the guests are locals, who join in with the singing.

Giaourtlou - small greek style burgers with fat yogurt.

With a population of over 50,000, Larnaca is one of the largest cities in Cyprus.

"To Edesma Tou Paradisou" translates to "The Feast of Paradise". This is a tavern offering great Cypriot food. Due to the mild clima, the customer, wearing a winter jacket, can sit outside in early January.
