UP 4005 "Big Boy" in Forney Museum, Denver, Colorado (H.A.N.W.E.)

This Big Boy is displayed under cover at the museum, so is in excellent condition. The only problem we had was getting the entire locomotive in the camera frame.

(This is the only Big Boy to suffer an accident, and it was, sadly, fatal to the engineer and fireman.)

Part of the roadside life in the US are the convenience stores that have largely replaced gas stations. You get it all there now, including questionable "hot dogs".

This heated roller seems to run 24/7. I am very unsure about buying an item from there.

On the other hand, the sandwiches kept in the cooler have been trustworthy.

Well, we finally saw all of the Big Boy's that are displayed in static. (Of course, we have shared photos of the operating locomotive 4014).

This unit is located on a hill in Omaha, Nebraska, overlooking the river and interstate. Quite a climb to get up to the viewing area.

The day we visited is was raining on and off, so this photo looked better in monochrome.

This is the view we had from Highway 26 as we approached Guernsey, Wyoming. We spotted the railroad yards on our left, and managed to get some photos of the yard activities. (See PIP upper left).

I added a PiP at upper right of some work going on in the Belen, New Mexico, railroad yards. With that, I now have (upper rightish) an image from the North Platte, Nebraska rail yard.

This photo was taken through the windshield of our RV, and is processed with GIMP.

Il y a de tout dans cette petite épicerie d'antan comme en n'en voit plus. La boutique est étroite mais propose tous les produits alimentaires. Elle est ouverte de 9h à 23h, et le propriétaire a toujours le sourire pour ses clients.

AS IF FORGOTTEN BY TIME... You can find everything in this little old-fashioned grocery shop, the sort you don’t see anymore. The shop is narrow but stocks a full range of food products. It’s open from 9 am to 11 pm, and the owner always has a smile for his customers.

WIE VON DER ZEIT VERGESSEN... Es gibt alles Mögliche in diesem kleinen Lebensmittelgeschäft von früher, wie man es heute kaum noch findet. Der Laden ist eng aber führt alle Arten von Lebensmitteln. Er ist von 9 bis 23 Uhr für seine Kunden geöffnet, und der Besitzer hat immer ein Lächeln für seine Kunden parat.

Taken in 1967, while I was wandering around the older part of Boston. This was the original color slide (Agfachrome), professionally scanned.

I had to work very hard on the tone, since the original was very dark. After exposing the shadows, there was some sharpening applied.

(Oh yes, taken with my Leica IIIa, 127mm lens.)

Taken at our hotel in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This bench is carved from wood in the form of the state of Michigan. Upper Peninsula is the back, sides are the Lower Peninsula.

(Note that the bench back is NOT a fish, it is indeed in the shape of the Upper Peninsula.)
