Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag (LKAB) is a Swedish mining company. The company mines iron ore at Kiruna and at Malmberget in northern Sweden. The company was established in 1890, and has been 100% state-owned since the 1950s. In 1918 the company purchased the Francis Flower business in the UK which included the GBSS processing plant at Scunthorpe steelworks.

Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag (GGBS) is produced by quenching molten iron slag from a blast furnace in water or steam, to produce a glassy, granular product that is then dried and ground into a fine powder. It replaces up to 70% of the Portland Cement in concrete, and can significantly reduce CO2-emissions. Francis Flower produced GGBS in Scunthorpe on the grounds of British Steel upgrading their blast furnace slag. LKAB is also a significant supplier of highly upgraded iron ore products to British Steel, the first deliveries were made in the 1930’s. Francis Flower was the second largest supplier of GGBS in the UK.

The water tower at Cleethorpes was built sometime around 1910 and was originally taller than it currently is. The original top was replaced in the late 1950s.

Appleby coke ovens at Scunthorpe steelworks. This battery comprised 66 Otto-Simon Carves ovens which were started in 1990. These were abandoned in 2023 leaving the works dependent on imported coke.

Disused Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows Lodge Hall on Bridge Street in Boston. The building has fallen on hard times but the terracotta facia still stands out along with the memorial on the wall to the members killed in World War 1.

Wainfleet all Saints clock tower in the market place was unveiled on 2 May 1899 as a memorial to Walter Martin of Wainfleet Hall who died at the age of 38 in 1896. It was built at the expense of his widow who presented it to the town. It is listed Grade II.

This corrugated iron house was built by contractors Wills & Reeve to house workers on the construction of Immingham Dock which began in 1906. This example was eventually removed to the Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum where it now houses the transport toy exhibits.

Verdi is a 1999 built oil & chemical tanker with a DWT of 3,045 tonnes. Seen here outbound on the Humber it was at that time registered in Antigua & Barbuda.The current registration is Cyprus.

Edward VII is referenced on this 1905 rainhead attached to the old post office building on Guildhall Street in Lincoln. The building is now a pub known as The Mailbox.

Former London Transport trolleybus 1812 takes a corner on the circuit at Sandtoft museum. This bus entered service in 1948 at Fulwell depot and operated until 1961 when it was sold to Spain and used on the Santander network, It was purchased by the British Trolleybus Society returned to the UK in 1977 and has seen much restoration including fitting new differentials for the rear axles.

Memories of Manchester's trolleybuses as BUT built ONE 744 stands at Sandtoft Museum purporting to be running on the 218 service to Ashton-under-Lyne from Manchester Piccadilly. I remember seeing these trolleybuses operating in the early 1960s and it was great to have a ride on this one.
