Friday 24 May 2019 (1346) – A yellow bus and a yellow tram in Cross Street, Manchester. The bus is First Manchester 49111 (YJ60 KDV), an Optare Versa new in November 2010, operating free circular service 1 around the city centre. There are two such free circulars supported by Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester City Council, Salford City Council and the Mayor of Manchester. The buses used on these services (around 12 hybrids and 3 electrics) are owned by TfGM and on 2 June 2019 when First Manchester sold their Queens Road garage and operations to Go-Ahead the buses remained at Queens Road operated by the newly formed Go North West. The tram is Manchester Metrolink set 3070 built by Bombardier which was delivered in June 2013.

Saturday 25 May 2019 (0633) – Stagecoach Manchester 19290 (MX08 GUA), an Alexander Dennis Enviro400 bodied Trident new in June 2008, seen entering Salford Quays when working a Metrolink tram replacement service. It wears Magicbus livery which Stagecoach has employed in various cities on services where there is heavy competition with other operators. Notably in Manchester this has been on the busy Wilmslow Road corridor.

Friday 23 May 2019 (1744) – Media City UK tram station at Salford Quays. Tram set 3062 waits in the left platform. The station has two lines although on leaving the platforms the track is a single line for short distance until it joins the main double line.

Old and new at this station. Normally considered as one of Manchester's two main railway stations it is now shared with many of Manchester's trams. Originally opened c1844 and had the reputation for being the worst category B interchange station in the United Kingdom in 2009. Here we see the new roof and tram interchange added in 2015. Behind is the old main building edifice. I remember catching the steam trains to and from my home town of Oldham under imposing but yellow smoked grimy glass held up by Victorian wrought iron frames here. Always quite imposing but now a very much more modern feel to things.

This is actually a Bombardier M5000 built in Bautzen, Germany from 2014. It is on its way to Manchester Airport.

Tuesday 14 July 1992 – The Manchester Metrolink tramway system was officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II three days after this photograph was taken. Tram set 1021 was seen in Lower Mosley Street passing the Midland Hotel. To launch the system 26 of these Italian built Firema T-68 tram sets were acquired and they lasted for 22 years before being replaced.

Tuesday 14 July 1992 – The Manchester Metrolink tramway system was officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II three days after this photograph was taken. Tram set 1021 was seen passing what was originally Manchester Central Railway Station opened in 1880. At the time of the photograph it had become the G-Mex Centre which is known as the Manchester Central Convention Complex nowadays. In the early 1970s the forecourt of the old railway station became a car park and the Yelloway Coach Station. To launch the Metrolink system 26 of these Italian built Firema T-68 tram sets were acquired and they lasted for 22 years before being replaced.

Tuesday 14 July 1992 – The Manchester Metrolink tramway system was officially opened by HM Queen Elizabeth II three days after this photograph was taken. Tram set 1007 was seen in Market Street. Built in Italy it was one of the first 26 Firema T-68 tram sets built in Italy. It entered service in April 1992, was withdrawn in February 2014 and is now preserved. This particular set was chosen to be the first tram to operate through Manchester city centre on 27 April 1992 chosen because it was the same number carried by Manchester Corporation Tramways last tram in 1949.
