NARUG QSL stamp

A relatively rare QSL stamp issued by the defunct NARUG (the National Amateur Radio Union of Greece) circa 1970. NARUG, founded by Din Psilogoannis SV1DB (SK), operated between 1968 and 1979, with the peak of their activity around 1969-1974.

UPU International Reply Coupon (IRC) issued in Bari, Italy in May 1977 for a base value of 300 Lire and additional definitive postage stamp of 50 Lire. IRCs were commonly used for return postage for QSL cards by the amateur radio and SWL communities. (Own collection)

Special greek revenue stamp used by lawyers for ratification of photocopies of documents. Produced by overprinting an old stock exchange fiscal stamp of 1.10 drachmae, in national currency (100 drachmae). Unknown date, 1990s assumed based on nominal value.

Unlisted cinderella stamp: German 1942 definitive issue (12pf, MI 827) overprinted with "GRIECHENLAND". Possibly issued after September 1943, when German troops took over the occupation of Greece until October 1944. Or a fabrication by a creative stamps dealer, using a cheap and readily available stamp.

Amateur radio QSL card send by SV1YY to VE3BLU in Ontario, Canada, confirming a 7 MHz CW QSO in May 1965.

This is an unlicensed operation under a self-assigned call sign, quite common in Greece before 1967. Dimitrios Psimorifos (now a silent key) was eventually licensed around 1980 as SV1NY. The reference to SV1AY is also spurious, the actual owner of SV1AY was named Dimitrios Kokkinis.

QSL card mailed directly to Canada, franked with a pair of "Traité de Sèvres" stamps of 2 drachmae, cancelled with an "ATHINAI- AVION" postmark on 31 VIII 65.
