I found these colourful little flowers on a garden bush. There were many such clusters and each flower is about 12mm across. I've no idea of what they may be, so all suggestions are welcome.

On Wednesday I posted an image of a retaining wall for the Wednesday Wall group. This is the fence that sits above that wall (visible, in part, at lower right).
Background info: The wall is a retaining wall for terracing between two properties - from the upper property only the fence is visible.

Total lunar eclipse

As I noted with my late night posting last night, we had a total lunar eclipse. This would be the longest I've seen, with the moon in total eclipse almost 1.5 hours and the overall event 5.5 hours! The moon became very dark indeed - this has the brightness boosted (check the ISO). Photos from the before and after are in the PiPs. View full screen.
It seems this will be the last total lunar eclipse to be seen anywhere until 2025.

I'll admit it's up to you to give suggestions as to what flowers these are. :-) EDIT: From Andy's suggestions below, I'm fairly sure this is an Azalea. I was playing around with a vintage 200mm RMC Tokina lens mounted on a bellows to allow closer focusing.

Southern Right Whale

My recent images have had some references to whale watching . Whales migrate up the eastern coast of Australia in August to calve in warmer waters, returning to the Antarctic area about November. This Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis) apparently calved in our local bay, causing quite a degree of local excitement. More images in the PiPs, also a long shot of a Humpback Whale breaching offshore.

Back in August 2021 I posted some images of my Japanese geisha doll, given away as a promotional exercise with Minolta SR1 cameras back in the early 1960s - which was when I bought mine (see PiP).

Over the years, Miss Minolta had lost her umbrella, but when she saw the images my lovely ipernity friend Pam J offered to make one for her. After various postage problems (covid related), the new umbrella arrived yesterday and both Miss Minolta and I are delighted and send Pam big huggss.

Don't ask why these flowers have that name! There are several species here, some native and some introduced. They grow in the sand dunes beside the beach, performing the very important role of helping keep the dunes stable and minimising erosion.
