I think this is a pure white pigeon, as the lcal doves are rather smaller. It was kind enough to pose for me while I was out taking photographs for our local Parish website.

Cuckoo spit, also known regionally as witch's spit, is a common name for the foamy nests of froghoppers, where their larvae live. This little nymph has just emerged and set off on its journey to freedom. In the last pip, you can see this natural spectacle of the nest where the larva resides!

Le « crachat de coucou », aussi appelé localement « crachat de sorcière », est le nom commun des nids mousseux des cicadelles, où vivent leurs larves. Cette petite nymphe vient d'éclore et de prendre son envol vers la liberté. Sur la dernière image, vous pouvez admirer ce spectacle naturel qu'est le nid où réside la larve !

Myopa dorsalis est un diptère de la famille des Conopidés, reconnaissable à ses joues blanches plus longues que la hauteur des yeux, son corps brun avec une tache noire sur le thorax et ses pattes puissantes brun-rougeâtres.
La femelle Myopa dorsalis capture une abeille en vol, lui pond un œuf dans l’abdomen, et la larve se développe en consommant l’hôte de l’intérieur.
Le même couple sur les 4 images se déplaçant de plantain en graminée.
Ce jour là, dans les gorges d'Ollioules, équipé léger avec un bridge Lumix, je n'ai pas eu de problèmes pour les suivre.

Le nom "duettiste" vient de son chant, produit par le frottement des pattes postérieures sur les ailes antérieures.

Im Elephant Rescue Park in der Nähe von Chiang Mai.
In Elephant Rescue Park können sich die Elefanten mehr oder weniger frei bewegen, auf grosse Shows* wird verzichtet. Dafür können Besucher mit den Elefanten spazieren, ein paar Kleinigkeiten zum Fressen zustecken und mit ihnen baden gehen, alles unter Aufsicht von Mahouts (Elefantenbetreuer), die ihre Elefanten genau kennt**.

Parks werben mit Schlagwörtern wie 'Ethical Elephant Sanctuary' und ähnlichem, da darf man einerseits oft nicht 'hinter die Kulissen' schauen und andererseits ist der Ausdruck 'ethisch/ethical' unter Umständen ein weiter Begriff ... vergl. dazu auch den Hinweis 'Aber' weiter unten ...

*Vor allem in der Nähe von Touristenzentren wie Chiang Mai oder Phuket werden (leider noch immer) Elefanten-Shows wie Baumstämme schleppen, Fussballspielen mit den Tieren, Malen etc. und als Höhepunkt Elefantenreiten angeboten.
Die Tiere in solchen Parks leben in der Regel in Ketten und unter schlechten Bedingungen, werden mit Elefantenhaken***, Eisenstangen und Schlägen zu irgendwas gezwungen was sie nicht wollen usw. (vor ein paar Jahren selber in Thailand und auch Nepal gesehen) – da ist schon einiges besser geworden ...

Aber:
Wir hatten bereits im Voraus von zu Hause aus den Ausflug zum 'Elephant Nature Park' gebucht: In den Unterlagen der Agentur (mit Sitz in Berlin und guten Bewertungen auf verschiedenen Portalen, keine xy-Agentur) wurde ein Besuch im 'Elephant Nature Park' angeboten ... leider war's dann ein Ausflug in den 'Elephant Rescue Park', der zwar auch interessant, aber eben nicht das Elefantenrettungs- und Rehabilitationszentrum von 'Saengduean Chailert' war, der mich sehr interessiert hätte und einer der wenigen Parks ist, in dem eine ethische Haltung von Elefanten garantiert und durch den Staat und diversen Tierschutzorganisationen kontrolliert wird. Im besuchten Park leben die Elefanten auch unter besseren Bedingungen als früher, aber beim Füttern der Tiere durch und dem Baden mit Touristen muss einfach ein grosses Fragezeichen gemacht werden. Dies entspricht nicht dem natürlichen Umgang den die Elefanten sonst pflegen.

Häufig besuchte ich in den letzten Jahren ohne Erfolg einen Weiher in der Nähe, in dem sich die Ringelnatter (Natrix natrix) aufhalten soll. Gestern bei warmem Wetter und Sonnenschein konnte ich in den Nachmittagsstunden ein großes erwachsenes Tier (siehe Foto und PiP)) und mehrere Jungtiere beobachten. Welch ein Erlebnis. Die Ringelnatter zählt nach der aktuellen Roten Liste Deutschland zu den gefährdeten Tieren und ist nach dem Bundesartenschutzgesetz streng geschützt.

Over the last few years, I have often visited a nearby pond where the grass snake (Natrix natrix) is said to live, but without success. Yesterday, in warm, sunny weather, I was able to spot a large adult (see photo and PiP) and several juveniles during the afternoon. What an experience. According to the current German Red List, the grass snake is classified as an endangered species and is strictly protected under the Federal Species Protection Act.

HFF - continuing my accidental series of local landscapes, Cotswold Alpacas have a herd of 45 animals in the village of Cowley.

You can book mindful walks with the alpacas and buy their wool, but for a small donation, you can also help yourself to well rotted alpaca manure, which seems to be rocket fuel for our garden plants.

As it was a quiet day at the farm, we were also encouraged to spend a little time in the company of these charming and inquisitive creatures. (Closeup in PiP).

Since the weather had been a bit wet beforehand, I was able to photograph this crane fly at my leisure as it hung there on the blade of grass. It let me get very close without trying to escape—that's always nice, hahaha :))

Comme il avait plu un peu auparavant, j'ai pu photographier cette tipule à mon aise, posée sur un brin d'herbe. Elle m'a laissé m'approcher très près sans chercher à s'enfuir – c'est toujours agréable, hahaha :))

Les mille-pattes (Myriapoda) ont besoin d'un milieu humide pour survivre. On les trouve donc principalement dans les sols humides, par exemple dans les sous-bois, le bois en décomposition, le jardin, le compost ou sous l'écorce ! Comme les vers de terre, ils se nourrissent de matières végétales mortes et les digèrent, créant ainsi un humus précieux et fertile. C'est pourquoi ils sont si importants pour la nature.
