As the nights get colder we have dew almost every morning. Here we are in my back garden looking down upon this very small and dainty spider’s web as the dew forms into silver glass balls. You can have an idea of how small an area this was as my camera lens is stopped down to F16 and still many of the dew drops remain out of focus. – The eyes – goodness knows but if you look a little longer you can start to imagine a nose and mouth too.

A look down the Onya River in Gerona, Catalonia, Spain from one of its many bridges showing these most colourful houses. The impressive Girona Cathedral sits to the right of centre with the Collegiate Church of Sant Feliu to the far left.

We are at Elvet Bridge over the River Wear in Durham City. A great day to go rowing and this is where they go from. The stone bridge is ancient, originally being built in the 12th century under Prince-Bishop Pudsey. This medieval stone structure features pointed arches and is a designated Grade I listed building.
Enjoy the mono edit that tries to imitate the view from here many years ago.

The Testimoni sculpture in Tossa de Mar, Spain. It was designed by Bonaventura Anson in 2020 and it is located near the old castle. The work's title suggests a connection between the residents of Tossa de Mar and their relationship to the place. Its presence in the town's streets encourages visitors to pause and reflect on what the sculpture means to those who live here.

I have to add that I was not sure what it meant!

We are here on the Hartlepool historic Royal Navy Museum quay where Britain’s oldest floating warship is moored. Around us you can also see the historic buildings as they were at the time too. All the sailors as well as any visitors must have run inland for shelter as it seems the enemy has reportedly been sighted! …. with a camera!

The world is all in a hurry these days. This young man cannot take his photo fast enough as the girl sweeps across his path. Behind him, other people want to rush too but are held up by the red pedestrian lights and yes, I was rushing too - also with a camera in my hand!

A promise of a few hours of dry weather sent me roaming onto my local hillsides. This is an old beacon tower which I have photographed many times but not quite from this spot. This exact spot is a place where I used to explore with my young brothers when I was a kid walking up a big hill to get here.

“During the Roman occupation of Britain, a warning beacon for local garrisons, possibly lit during times of unrest, may have been sited on Hartshead Pike. The name refers to the hill and the tower. The tower is not on the highest part of the hill but its prominent position, 940 feet (290 m) above sea level, has been the site of a beacon or signalling station from early times, or at least from the 16th century.” WiKi

Another experiment with the new-to-me Lumix FZ1000/2. Disappointingly not as sharp as my bigger sensor+ professional lens Nikon D7500. This is in fact a hand-held 5-shot HDR scene to bring out the character of the clouds that I was seeing, so not helping with the definition of course! As an old friend often quoted me “You cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear”. Ah well, a rather nice photo all the same, I think, and hopefully you do too. The Bridge camera to its credit has a lot of nice features and for me the weight and size + long lens range outweighs most of its downsides.

After a morning exploring Loch Morar we decided to revisit the coastal village of Arisaig and its environs. On our way to do a round walk along the small Loch nan Eala we came first across this strange canal-like channel.

The Arisaig Canal is a historic 1-kilometer (0.6-mile) water channel connecting Loch nan Eala to the sea. It was dug during the Victorian era by the estate as a Sawmill transport. Its main job was to float timber down from a steam-powered sawmill at Mains Farm to the sea. Digging the channel caused Loch nan Eala to shrink however. Years later, this revealed a well-preserved Iron Age crannog (an ancient artificial island dwelling) on the loch's south edge. Locally, the channel is also referred to as a Scottish lade (a water-supply trench).

Durham Market Hall

A visit to this beautiful city is not complete without a look in here. Apparently sitting in the same building as the old town hall. Established in 1851 and refurbished in the 1980’s The PiP shows the market hall circled.

The City of Durham has long had an association with markets going back to Saxon and Norman times. The Market Place became the focal point for traders to sell their wares alongside farmers, butchers, greengrocers, shoemakers, street peddlers and entertainers. The area set aside for the new Market Hall was part of the site of New Place, the former palace and gardens built in the Middle Ages for the Nevilles of Raby and Brancepeth, the Earls of Westmoreland, who had forfeited the property to the Crown after their involvement in the ill-fated Rebellion of the North in 1569.
The palace was eventually bought from King James II in 1612 by Henry Smith's Charity and was used as a factory, workhouse and charity school before being demolished to ultimately make way for the present Market Hall.

Almost each evening we experienced great sunsets here. This showing the first stars was one of my favourites. We have here Rum, centre and the Isle of Skye to the right.

The first PiP, taken a few days earlier shows from the same spot slightly more to the right towards Skye with more stars and fishing boats. The second PiP taken on our first sight from our rented cottage holiday garden here.
