Backpacking to Mount Assiniboine we camped our second night at Og Lake. We arrived and set up camp in the afternoon and later watched the sunset. It was a beautiful spot but the mosquitoes were very bad. In the photo, several other campers' tents are visible on the lower right and Mount Assiniboine looms above the other peaks on the right..

Bien campé sur ses pa-pattes !

I heard on the TV the other day that these extended heatwave conditions are causing some trees to enter an "early autumn" phase as it was so dry.

Checking in the garden I saw evidence of this on the lawn under my sycamore tree.........lots of seed heads and leaves losing their colour and falling. I brought some indoors to photograph them.

The same is true of some of the other trees nearby. On the plus side, the seed pods and leaves are very photogenic.

There is a shot of one of the leaves in the PiP.

Another of my old Panoramio entries here. Looking a bit like some of my watercolor paintings of long ago. Taken in the Yorkshire Dales near Horton in Ribblesdale so probably pointing to Pen-y-Ghent.
Sadly this looks all too much like some of our moorland after the recent fires but.....

Grey Abbey is an ancient ecclesiastical site in the town of Greyabbey, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is on land now owned by the Montgomery family on the west side of Strangford Lough. The abbey was founded in the 12th Century and disbanded in the 16th. We explored the Ards Peninsula and the area of Strangford Lough yesterday and enjoy the fine weather and seeing again many places we had visited over the years we lived in Northern Ireland.

des trains y passent
et le temps aussi.

On regarde le ciel,
des oiseaux de hasard
sortent du nid

en suivant les rails
des Torinesi.

Des trains de marchandises
remplis quoi qu'on en dise
d'Italie

font trembler les quais
au cœur de la nuit.

Et quelques voyageurs
au sifflet de minuit
embarquent aussi

quand sonne l'heure
des amants éblouis.

C'est une petite gare
perdu dans la mémoire
de ma vie

des trains y passent
et l'amour aussi.

On regarde le ciel
pour retrouver le miel
des jours d'avant

Mais les oiseaux sont partis
emportés par le temps .

Chinchorro mummies at the Museo Arqueológico San Miguel de Azapa.

These mummies of the Chinchorro hunter gatherer culture in the Atacama desert in the far north of Chile are 2000 years older than the Egyptian mummies! The oldest artificially preserved mummy dates from 5050 BC, the oldest naturally preserved mummy is from 7020 BC.

In 2021 the Chinchorro sites and mummification process in Arica and Caleta/Valle Camarones were inscribed as UNESCO world heritage.

This is one of three orchids we saw along the trails as we backbacked in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. It is the Eastern Fairy Slipper, Calypso bulbosa var. americana, found from the Rockies to the east coast.

While camped at Lake Magog in Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia, we day-hiked to the Niblet, a viewpoint on a low peak in the area. This was the view to the west with Sunburst Peak on the left and Cerulean Lake below.
