Obwohl für mich heute ein trauriger Tag ist... Nachdem ich in den letzten Wochen sehr damit beschäftigt war, meinen Urlaub in Singapur zu organisieren, der in genau einer Woche beginnen sollte, kam heute die Nachricht (wenn auch nicht ganz unerwartet), daß wegen des Coronavirus ab sofort u.a. keine Deutschen mehr nach Singapur einreisen können. Die Enttäuschung ist groß, aber unter den gegebenen Umständen erwartet mich nun auch nicht die Ungewißheit, ob ich von Singapur aus überhaupt hätte zurückkehren können oder womöglich in Quarantäne gemußt hätte. Die Flüge und Hotels ließen sich zum Glück kostenlos stornieren, und so muß ich mich jetzt mit Fotos wie diesem aus vorherigen Singapur-Reisen trösten...

Happy Fence Friday!
Although it is a sad day for me today... After being very busy with preparing my holidays in Singapore which were to start in exactly one week, I got the news today that due to the Coronavirus spreading worldwide from now on Germans among others will not be allowed to enter Singapore for an indefinite time. I am very disappointed as I have been looking forward so much to my holidays, but under the present circumstances I now don't have to worry whether I would have had troubles to return home or would even be put in quarantine afterwards. Luckily, my airline tickets and hotel bookings could be cancelled without any fees, and so I have to console myself with fotos like this one I have taken on earlier trips to Singapore...
All the best to you in these strange times and stay healthy!

Blick vom (im Freien liegenden) Hotelflur auf einen Teil der sogenannten Sky Gardens des Parkroyal on Pickering in Singapur, dessen grünes Architekturkonzept preisgekrönt ist.  Vom Hotelfenster aus hat man auf verschiedenen Stockwerken den schönen Eindruck, in einen Garten zu schauen und gleichzeitig einen Sichtschutz zu den umgebenden Zimmern und Gebäuden.

View from the al fresco hotel corridor onto a part of the so called Sky Gardens of the Parkroyal on Pickering Hotel in Singapore with its award-winning green architecture. Parts of the outer facade are planted with numerous plants and trees. Even from the highest floors, standing at the hotel window you'll get the impression to look into a beautiful garden.

In Singapur scheint sich die Skyline ständig zu verändern, und für mich sind in Asien die Bambusgerüste auf Baustellen selbst in schwindelerregenden Höhen immer wieder faszinierend anzusehen. Was bei uns vermutlich vom TÜV verboten wäre, macht hier eindeutig Sinn. Bambus ist leicht und biegsam und in solchen Höhen sicher besser geeignet als tonnenschwere Stahlgerüste.

Historisches Filmtheater aus den 30er Jahren im Art-Deco-Stil in Singapur.  Vor fast 20 Jahren wurde es geschlossen, aber man wäre nicht in Singapur, wenn man nicht etwas noch Größeres daraus machen würde: Der Platz ringsherum wurde zur Capitol Piazza umgestaltet mit modernem Shopping-Center, Restaurants, 6-Sterne-Hotel, Luxusapartments, Theater- und Kinokomplex mit 900 Plätzen.

A historic cinema in Art Deco style in Singapore, closed down around 20 years ago, but you wouldn't be in Singapore if they didn't create something bigger: The surrounding area has been redesigned to the Capitol Piazza with a modern shopping center, restaurants, a six-star hotel, luxury apartments, and a theatre and cinema complex with seating for 900 visitors, but it still keeps something of its old charm.
