Die Brú Heimsálfa von unten sieht aus, als schwebe sie zwischen den Kontinentalplatten, die in Island aufeinander stoßen. Sie wirkt wie eine Klammer, die vesucht diese Platten zusammen zu halten. Dabei hat die Brücke aber gar keine Chance. Die nordamerikanische und eurasische Platte bwegen sich jedesJahr 2 cm auseinander.

Während der Brutzeit verteidigen Küstenseeschwalben sehr aggressiv ihre Nester. Beim Durchqueren von Brutgebieten empfiehlt es sich, einen Stock/ Schirm o.ä. hochzuhalten, eine stabile Kopfbedeckung schadet auch nicht. Die Vögel können mit ihrem Schnabel üble Wunden am Kopf zufügen.
