The Monolith of Mojave has stood here silently for millennia, it's origins cloaked in mystery.
Theories of who erected this stone monument vary - from an unknown ancient civilization to extraterrestrial beings.
Ideas of it's purpose also differ - from religious purposes to a celestial marker.
Naysayers, such as geologists and academics, dismiss this as a mere natural rock formation.

Here I tried a square crop and some attempt to tone the monochrome. Tried, but didn't like sharpening.

Taken at the Mayan ruins we visited from the cruise ship. These stones are part of the "ball court" construction. You can see that the jungle is continuing to destroy these man-made structures.
