Dieser recht große, auffällig gefärbte Tagfalter kann im Juli in Wiesen beobachtet werden. Es ist der Kleine Perlmuttfalter (Issoria lathonia), dessen Raupe sich von Acker-Stiefmütterchen ernährt. Er ist (noch) nicht gefährdet.

This fairly large, strikingly coloured butterfly can be seen in meadows in July. It is the Queen of Spain fritillary (Issoria lathonia), whose caterpillar feeds on field pansies. It is not (yet) endangered.

I thought photographing birds in flight was difficult, until I tried going after dragonflies! I was pleased with this one, though.

Top to bottom: A male rather ragged Emperor Dragonfly defending his patch; a Brown Darter; and a second, fresher looking Emperor a little upstream. Worth zooming is a bit to see the detail.

My wife was very patient waiting for me to get my shots, and helped explain what I was doing to passers-by on the canal who saw me pointing the camera at random, apparently empty spaces!

We walked along this Loch side many years ago in rain and very grey weather. It seemed a miserable broody stretch of water then but what a difference today. This is one of a number of piers along its 18.8 km (11.7 miles) length and this photo belies its incredible depth of 310 m (1017 ft) making it the deepest in the UK and 17th deepest in the word. It has a surface area of 26.7 sq km (10.3 miles). (The deepest Sea loch is Loch Etive which is only 145 m deep (176ft).
Although there are some boats moored here, in the hours walking I only saw one moving across the water. See PiP for Loch church

The Botanische Tuinen Universiteit Utrecht (Utrecht University Botanic Gardens) are the largest academic botanical garden - with a size of about 10 hectare - in the Netherlands. The garden is located on Utrecht Science Park and surrounded by (modern) buildings of the university.

The botanic garden has a spectacular setting including a large rock garden built on the bunkers of an old fort. It has a collection of around 10.000 plant species.

The Botanic Gardens originate back to 1639, when the first botanical garden for medicinal purposes was founded in the city centre of Utrecht. In 1963 it came to the current location at Fort Hoofddijk, once part of the New Dutch Waterline. Between 1964 and 1974, over 2.100 tons of Ardennes rock created one of Europe’s largest rock gardens on and around the fort.

Ich fotografiere immer wieder gerne mal diese Spitzen dieser Schachtelhalme,sind immer wieder interessante Motive,im letzten Pip ist so ein ganz kleiner winziger Pilz oben auf der Spitze des Halmes gewachsen :))

I often enjoy photographing the tips of these horsetails; they always make interesting subjects. In the last picture, there's a tiny little mushroom growing right on the tip of the stalk :))

J'aime souvent photographier l'extrémité de ces prêles ; elles constituent toujours des sujets intéressants. Sur la dernière photo, on aperçoit un minuscule champignon qui pousse tout au bout de la tige :))

There's still no sign of rain, so we have the daily chore of watering the garden (the summer's water bill will be high!) but the daily harvest makes it worthwhile.

It's so nice to have tomatoes that actually taste of tomato, unlike the ones from the supermarket!

We are just outside Durham here, on the River Wear. A good place to take a canoe or paddle board for miles of fun on the water. Notice the smoke in the near distance as it creeps into this river area. The smoke created by a nearby wheat field going up in flames. At the moment it does not concern these children or the dog but it was to get worse.
