The Black Swallowtail ranges from southern Canada south to Florida and Costa Rica west to the Rocky Mountains and eastern Arizona south to Mexico and Peru. While I have photos of immaculately perfect specimens, this rugged, fighting individual intrigued me.

Queen Anne's Lace, shot from beneath - highlighted by dappled rays of shifting sunlight. Nature preserve, July, 2017. In the larger view, the similarity in structure to the concepts of vaulting used to construct the towering cathedrals of the Middle Ages came strongly to mind.
