Italian Navy / NATO Very Low Frequency transmitter facility for communications to submerged submarines (20.27 & 20.76 kHz). The VLF-antenna of ICV Tavolara VLF transmitter is spun between a 133-metre-tall mast on Spalmatore di Fuori and 4 masts, which are situated on mountains southwards.

A rural telephone exchange hut with a leaning loo, a little South of Toowoomba. The original electro-mechanical exchange equipment will have been replaced by modern electronics connected to optical fibre rather than copper cable. The satellite earth station plant belongs to a partner business, Viasat. It communicates with a geostationary satellite over the Pacific Ocean.

Water colour of a coastal communication station

Among the many photos that have come into my possession from my late Mother, are a couple of small watercolours. The other one is a very simple seascape of the Entrance to the Pireaus. This one fascinates me. It is very precise. I would guess that it is from the beginning of the 20th century. The tall mast still has the rigging for flag signals. The structures on the cabin could be radio masts, although the taller part of the right-hand structure appears to have a cowl at the top.
There is no indication of the subject or its location. Given the Greek location of the other painting, it could be that this was painted abroad. It seems unlikely that this building still stands, so I am not expecting anyone to identify it, but if anyone can that would be great.
That it was among photos from the Pritchard family is not surprising. As can be seen from a newspaper article, they were always interested in new technology, which in the late 19th & early 20th centuries included wireless and flying. I have uploaded the article and an accompanying photo of members of the family with a balloon. The article is at www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/39796278 and the photo next to that.

Site visit by potential contractors. Tunnel three (Bylong) Up end. The 375-107 is the distance from Sydney in Kms. The tunnel is single track and is 1.975Km long. August 1993.

The earth works, 5 tunnels and numerous bridges were constructed in the 1930s but track wasn't laid until the 1980s in the Sandy Hollow to Gulgong section and is never likely to be laid in the Gulgong to Mary Vale section. The tunnel closest to Sandy Hollow was used as a road between its construction and the track being laid.

A l'époque tout le monde ne possédait pas un téléphone, il fallait se rendre à la poste pour passer un coup de fil.

At Viré, in the Saône et Loire, Burgundy, the post office has been completely renovated, but the old names have been retained.

On the pediment: telegraphs, telephone. It was a time when not everyone had a telephone at home, and people went to the post office to telephone.

The tower of Hellenic Telecomunications Organization (HTO - OTE) at the site of Thessaloniki International Exhibition. The tower was designed by architect Alexander Anastasiades and was completed in 1965. Around 1970 it was used to support antennas for a VHF mobile telephone service. Today it houses a rotating coffee shop and cellular telephone facilities of COSMOTE.
