This is a main road overpass in Xian, China. The overpasses serve 2 sets of users…pedestrians, and the thousands of electric motor bikes which use outermost lanes of the roadways. Here I am going down on a pedestrian escalator taking the photo of the e-bikes using the bike ramps opposite. The overpass itself is about 2 lanes wide, and pedestrians and bikes are able to safely cross the very wide and busy roads below. Very necessary to be able to cross at all!
I hope you have a wonderful Friday and weekend. I was not actually able to get online to Ipernity for most of the week…it would not load. Thus I did not visit much, sorry.

Along the banks of the Yellow River in Wuwei, the street barbers were in operation. They put a seat in a public place and cut hair for ¥10..about $2.50 Australian.
On this barber’s seat was a most unhappy lad having his head shaved, his parents both filming and soothing him simultaneously. At least it is an upgrade from the year 2000 when we saw a lot of public dentists in the streets, dragging out teeth with pliers….

The general store in a traditional building in far North Pakistan. It is a small, high village in the Karakoram mountains. Most of these small villages do not have large shopping areas but just one or two small shops like these which sell basic necessities.

Far North Pakistan in summer. Ancient orchards here are heavily laden with fruits, most particularly apricots. Every family grows, and dries them in huge quantities, up to a tonne per household. Surplus are sold, but most are stored for the brutal long winters. They are a staple and no part is wasted. Lesser quality ones are fed to animals in winter. The kernels and stones are turned into pure apricot oil for cooking and for medicinal uses.
And every stone wall, flat roof and even roadsides in summer are carpeted with naturally drying bright orange apricots. And yes…I have helped to pick and prepare them. They are delicious, fresh, or dried!

Pakistán, at 5.30 on a 38° day in an almost stationary mass of thousands of motor scooters, cars, hand carts etc in the centre of the busy market of the city of Rawalpindi.
I was going to be cheeky and put it in HBM as a motor scooter bench seat, but suspected I would be howled down for that. I just did it anyway (next day)

A decorated wall in Kashgar Old City …or a reconstruction of this ancient Silk Route city, in Xinjiang, western China. It has been made as a modern tourism site…the twisting lanes of the ancient mud brick city replaced by decorated walls in the new iteration. The artefacts on all the walls are local items of everyday utensils and items used by the original inhabitants, mostly old, at least.
