Was listening to the engine's beat as we went along, and thinking to myself, that sounds like a Hunslet --- not having had a look before we set off. I was right.

Austerity "2890" was built by Hunslet Engine Co, Leeds in 1943.

Has been modified and now runs as Douglas, from Thomas the Tank Engine universe ---

I heard parts of this family's conversation, which I thought was in German. They seemed to be coping well with the process of buying tickets. Had they seemed to be struggling, I would have offered to help them, despite having no German language abilities! This station is the nearest to Newhaven ferry port, but the last ferry arrival had been two hours earlier. They looked equipped for a day trip - not longer.
The engineers' train is a frequent visitor to the area but usually very early in the morning. The diesel units have cargo areas which can carry a number of different modules - the autumn railhead leaf cleaning jets are examples.

Two of Network Rail's MPVs - Multi-purpose vehicles - pass through Newhaven Town station. According to the log on Realtime Trains website, they made three trips along the line from Lewes - two to Seaford and one to the former Newhaven Marine station, during that day.

I don't know why I took this view of the statue. Most people's photographs seem to have the couple's kiss as the focus of their image. Maybe there was something preventing me from taking that side. It is very tall and getting far enough back might have been a problem.
It would appear that, since I took this, another narrow layer has been added to the plinth with masses of sculpted images of meetings at the station depicted.

Big train - I think Eurostar trains have 21 carriages. I know it was a long walk to get to our carriage which was near the front of the train, when we took a trip to Brussels.

Looking south across what was the riverside bay platforms, you can still see the large slabs that made up the edge, the infill looks somewhat red in this image. The station roof [canopies] covers all but the actual running lines and were substantially restored in 2012.
The Station buildings, footbridge & canopies are all Grade II listed, as an example of Victorian Railway Engineering from 1978.

At the weekend, this area would be filled by flea market stalls - often, over 200 of them ... fenced off for safety [& revenue protection] from the operational area.

Unlike Abbey Wood, Woolwich is an underground station. As with all the other underground stations on the Elizabeth Line, there are screens at the platform edges, with sliding doors that open in concert with the trains' doors. For that reason there will be no photos of trains at these stations.
While some stations have specially commissioned artworks, others have attractive design features, like the decorative columns and large lighting arrays.

Edgware Road Station (the Bakerloo one; there's a separate Edgware Road station for the District, Circle, Hammersmith & City lines). Nice to see a bit of the original Victorian tiling preserved, even though the ticket window is no longer in use.

Under the new all-over roof at Alston. No.18 aka "Old Rusty" has been sat in Platform 2 as part of running around the passenger train in Platform 1, it will haul the next train to & from Slaggyford in a few minutes. It's normally the station shunter, but due to a problem it is deputising for the rostered steam loco.
[Focus could be better, apologies, I think the camera's setting wasn't correct]
