Once in a while I try something a little different - I rather liked the sweeping curve of the railway tracks here.

Diese Schleusung erfolgt gleich zu Beginn der Fahrt und führt zur Saarschleife,
wo der Fluss eine 300° Schleife vollzieht.

Vom Eingangsbereich des Gebäudes an der Ostseite führt eine 82 Meter lange, gebogene Rolltreppe aufwärts durch den Speicher. Die Fahrt durch die sogenannte 'Tube' führt die Besucher direkt zu einem Panoramafenster im 6. Obergeschoss. Von dort gelangt man über eine zweite, kurze Rolltreppe auf die Plaza im 8. OG. Man befindet sich nun in 37 m Höhe und gelangt von hier auf die rundumlaufende Aussichsterrasse. Dieser Bereich ist kostenfrei.

Spy Satellite Target

Taken in the desert near Casa Grande, Arizona. These markers are located close to the RV park where we spent many winters.

The "target" is a group of concrete pads in that shape. There is a benchmark in the exact center. The operators of the spy satellites would take photos of these markers, and then check their locations against the exact positioning of the benchmark.

After a charity walk in Cheltenham today we were lucky to get a glimpse inside the usually private school chapel at the town's College. The building was designed to celebrate the college's 50th anniversary, and dedicated in 1896.

A group of senior pupils were undertaking a masterclass on the chapel organ, which sounds as magnificent as the building looks.

HWW - another photo from my rediscovered archive of a US road trip.

This was taken in a passageway through the fortifications at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. Constructed on a man-made island atop a sandbar near the entrance to Charleston Harbour, this fort was the site of the first exchange of fire at the commencement of the US Civil War in April 1861.

I discovered an interesting US Civil War fact... the last widow of a Civil War veteran died just a few years ago in December 2020. At age 17, in 1936, Helen Viola Jackson married 93 year old James Bolin, who had served in the (Union) 14th Missouri Cavalry. Bolin had offered to marry her so that she could inherit his war pension, as thanks for helping with his chores. When he died three years later, his daughters from a previous marriage threatened to ruin Helen's reputation if she applied for Bolin's pension, so she never did - passing up a small fortune - and never remarried.

Looking down. Had to perch the camera on the railing for a longer exposure. You can see the blur from other visitors taking the stair.

Yes, there is a mirror at the bottom, and my camera can be seen reflected.

While we waited for our turn on the cable car up to Table Mountain, there were plenty of interesting views.

This balcony provides a great view of the mountain area, and in the haze, Capetown itself.

Seen along the highway in Montana. Those fences are snow fences, intended to keep the railroad tracks clear.

Taken from our RV as we drove parallel to the rail line; so it needed a lot of work in GIMP to correct the colors.

PiP shows a typical train that we saw on these tracks.

Poplar trees are not seen in the warmer areas of Australia, but in the cooler southern areas they are fairly common. I saw these on the Southern Tablelands while on my recent travels, as we head into Autumn and at an altitude of about 600 metres. Happy Fence Friday, everyone, and have a great weekend.
