We took the 07.30 Rio Grande Zephyr from Denver to Salt Lake City which took all day arriving in Salt Lake in the middle of the night. As we climbed into the Rockies these were the snowy scenes we enjoyed from high up in the dome car. We are somewhere near Glenwood Springs I think.

The current Kommabrücke was built in 1720. It is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Vorarlberg. The bridge spans the river Bolgenach at a height of 15 metres.

King Winter brought lots of snow to Flanders today. A blanket of snow measuring 4 to 10 cm. Great fun for the children, because it was Wednesday and a free afternoon. Snow fun for young and old and four-legged friends. It's great to see children going outside and having fun with everyday things like snow. The fresh air does them good.

The freshly fallen snow and black ice can create dangerous conditions.

I wish everyone Happy New Year 2026, together with your family, friends, pets and good health.

The Fatimakapelle (Fatima Chapel) was donated by an inhabitant from Hittisau. He promised to build a chapel if his son, who had been seriously injured, would recover. After 43 days in he was discharged in good health and the family began building the chapel in 1949. The tuff stone for the grotto was quarried from the Engen Loch on the nearby river Bolgenach.

In 1950, following its completion, the chapel was consecrated. The Fatimakapelle was renovated in 1986.

The chapel is named after the town of Fátima, the most important place of pilgrimage in Portugal and one of the best-known in the Roman Catholic Church. The chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The Pfarrkirche St. Michael is the parish church of Sonthofen. The church is an impressive neo-baroque building. The church was first mentioned in the year 1449. However, archaeological findings indicate a much older age. In 1488, the church was renewed towards the west. In its present state Pfarrkirche St. Michael was built in 1738-40.

After a severe bombing raid during World War II, the church was renewed. This last restoration was not completed until 1954 and the magnificent ceiling paintings were not finished until as late as 1991.

The main photo shows St Michael’s on the left, with the Frauenkapelle to its right.

Z - einmal am Himmel die Wolken und einmal auf der Erde die Felsen im Schnee als Mauerreste.
Eine alte Mauer. Sie dienten historisch dazu, Weideflächen abzugrenzen, Vieh zu lenken und Besitzverhältnisse zu markieren. Die Mauern (Trockenmauer) wurden ohne Mörtel ("trocken") errichtet, wobei die Steine geschickt aufeinander geschichtet wurden. Trockensteinmauern sind ein Zeugnis traditioneller Handwerkskunst und eng mit der Geschichte der Almwirtschaft verbunden.
