This is the view looking west from Edinburgh Castle.

The prominent spires of St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral stand out in the mist. Just to not disappoint any railway enthusiasts in my audience I should also point out that the multi-storied building between castle and cathedral is the Lothian Road side of the Caledonian Hotel opened in 1903 by the the Caledonian Railway whose Princes Street station was entered via the hotel's grand arches until its closure in 1965.

The Jurassic limestones of the Alb typically weather like this with deep valleys and flat-topped peaks.

Unfortunately I don't know where this shot was taken. Can anyone identify the Schloss and view?
Thanks to Stephan (see below) I now know its Burgruine Hohenurach!

My railway interest was at a low ebb & I couldn't be bothered to walk over to the station to get a decent shot of the Pacifics still steam-hauling trains in the eastern zone.

The Fernsehturm is on the extreme right & the tower in the distance is the Rathaus making the train an arrival at Berlin Alexanderplatz station (to the right behind the high rise).

HFF & have a great weekend.

My railway interest was at a low ebb & I couldn't even be bothered to walk over to the station to get a decent shot of the Pacifics still steam-hauling trains in the eastern zone although I probably thought I might get arrested if I did. I contented myself with a snatched shot of a train arriving. Lots of interesting cars in the parking though!
