Returning back home after 2 weeks vacation in Germany I made a short detour to capture this image of Stone Castle in Greenhithe Kent, England. The 3 storey square tower of the building on the left is medieval, probably late 12th century while the rest of the building dates from 1825.

I'm submitting this photo for World Photography Day because it represents an important event in my life; 56 years ago (almost to the day) I began working here in my first job after graduating from University. Significantly it also records my first visit to Stone Castle for almost 56 years because the Geology Department of Blue Circle & I relocated to Leicestershire 3 weeks after starting here. It also represents the passage of those years because it is clear that the building and gardens are now derelict!

As a life-long railway enthusiast & photographer I admire the iconic British lensman Colin Gifford who pioneered the "New Approach" to railway photography in the 1960s during the declining years of UK steam. American photographer O. Winston Link is also high on my list of favourites.
