It's 10.30 and the light is beautiful. This was the only photo I took during the recent Clyde Netherlands reunion - I was too busy catching up with former colleagues many of whom I hadn't seen for over 20 years.

I worked in the oil industry back then and Clyde had North Sea hydrocarbon production offshore from Scheveningen. It is still producing but clearly the mass of windmills on the horizon is proof that greener power generation is taking over.

We have spent a lot of time in Padstow but never made the 30 minute drive there. Despite the rain and wind it was well worth it.

In any case we could shelter from the storm in the many tourist shops & cafes with only a few tourists in them! This was the Chapel Cafe, hence the beautiful windows.

LNER A1 4-6-2 60163 Tornado duly appeared light engine from Loughborough, stopped beyond the Down Home signal seen here, reversed and shot off back to Loughborough.

We missed it the first time but on hearing it again I walked up to the loco and spoke to Dave the driver. It turned out they were Human Element testing the European Train Control System (ETCS) or is that ATMS - Advanced Train Management System now we are apparently no longer European?

The Morro de Toix & Bernia Mountains form an east-west barrier between Calpe and Altea on the Costa Blanca coast and the only way through is this very narrow ravine at Mascarat. Since the earliest days the track through the canyon was only passable on foot or by donkey. The first narrow coastal road and classic stone bridge at the front was abandoned & replaced in recent years by the middle bridge carrying the N-332.

The railway bridge opened in 1914 & carried the E.S.A., or Cia de los Ferrocarriles Estrategicos y Secundarios de Alicanterail, a metre gauge railway that runs from Alicante to Denia on the Costa Blanca - now operated by FGV. Like the road the railway runs through tunnels either side of the ravine and the train only briefly appears in the daylight to cross the bridge making photography tricky. Especially from this angle!

HFF to everyone. No snow but Have a great Christmas weekend!
