Leybornia (Libourne) was founded in 1270 as a bastide on the site of the Roman settlement of Fozera. It was named after the town's founder, Roger of Leybourne an English seneschal of Gascony, under the authority of King Edward I of England. Aquitaine was under English rule at the time. It suffered considerably in the struggles of the French and English for the possession of Gironde in the 14th century, and joined France in the 15th century.

The restaurant Le Ma is part of the Hotel de la Tour, which is located at the foot of the 14th century fortifications. The restaurant offers seasonal French cuisine based on home-made products.

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, which was rebuilt in the 19th century in the neo-Gothic style while preserving the 14th century choir. It is said that a thorn from the crown of Christ.has been offered by Charlemagne to the authorities of Condatis, the future Libourne. It has been kept in Libourne since 1609.

The church dedicated to St Michael was built in the 11th century. Nestled in the forest, this tiny church lies in a bend of the River Leyre and is the only remnant of the village of Lugo.

The oldest parts of the church, such as the choir and the nave, date back to the 11th or 12th century. The current bell tower dates back to the 15th century.

On the north façade, at the foot of the tower, there was an opening that is now bricked up, the so-called ‘Porte des Cagots’, which according to local legend allowed excommunicated people and lepers to attend church services.

Traces of frescoes are visible along the nave.

A fantastic place to spend a later afternoon in Bordeaux is the "miroir d'eau", just opposite the "Place de la Bourse".

The water of the 3,500 m² pool periodically recedes underground and returns in the form of a cloud of mist. This is a great fun - not only for children.
