He began playing guitar at the age of twelve and at 14 he won a guitar competition sponsored by the jazz magazine "Down Beat". At 18, he became a guitar lecturer at the University of Miami, and a year later at Berklee College of Music in Boston.<br /> <br /> Pat Metheny has been honoured many times for his achievements as a guitarist, composer and producer. He has received 20 Grammy Awards, among others.
