GWR Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall topping and tailing with Black 5 45305 on a two coach train. This got 6990 to Rothley to head a later working leaving 45305 to return to Loughborough with the short local train. Some of that steam was drifting from our own engine in the siding.

On the Saturday of the 2019 Winter Gala I was rostered fireman on visiting Great Western Railway Manor 4-6-0 7802 Bradley Manor.

On our first trip we had double-headed with Modified Hall 6990 Witherslack Hall on the 09.00 train to Leicester but this shot was taken prior to our second trip, the 11.15, and we were waiting in the Down Loop in Loughborough as 6990 departed steamily out of the station with the 10.45 train.

Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45305 Alderman AE Draper on shed at Loughborough. I had prepped and lit her up & I was returning a rake to 6990 Witherslack Hall when this view through the Hall's cab window presented itself.

After my leisurely ride on Great Western Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall Les and me relieved Pete & Aran for the last trip of the day. More exertion on my part this time but no photos!

We arrived back on shed to find both pits occupied so were instructed to stable the Hall in road 3. I ran the irons through the fire and topped up the boiler and we were done. She still had 120psi on the boiler but the fire was blackening and there's not a whiff of steam around.

GWR Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall has just run into the yard at Loughborough where we will relieve the morning crew, Martin & Mat, to work the 15.00 service to Leicester North.

The weather was abysmal but it did clear up later.

As the GCR gears up for a return to covid-restricted services next weekend my first firing turn of 2021 was the 10.00 non-public "refresher"on GWR Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall.

After returning to Loughborough & signing off I drove to the Birstall foot crossing north of Leicester to catch 6990 & our relief crew, Ian & James, on the 11.40 refresher.

A Santa Special afternoon turn on be-tinselled Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall. It was virtually dark when we arrived at Leicester North station but the combination of the glow from the firebox and the station Christmas lights adds some colour to the scene. Taken after uncoupling the loco.

What a splendid sight to be greeted with at 06.00 on a Sunday morning!

GWR Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack is being prepped on road 1 pit while alongside on the middle road is BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 92214 out of steam & hooked up to Peak diesel D123. Waiting for our attention in the yard behind the Hall is Standard 5 4-6-0 73156.

A Great Western scene on Loughborough shed. Visiting from the Severn Valley Railway Small Prairie 2-6-2T 4566 was being prepped on the second day of the Autumn Gala. Alongside was resident Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall.

The Indian Summer continues and Great Western Railway Modified Hall 4-6-0 6990 Witherslack Hall departs from Loughborough in brilliant sunshine.

The train in platform 1 had just arrived from Leicester behind 92214 the other engine in steam today. Class 25 diesel D5185 is stabled in the Down Siding.

Anthony the fireman looks out for the station as Great Western Railway Modified Hall 4-6-0 Witherslack Hall 6990 drops down into Rothley with the 10.15 mid-week service to Leicester North.

Marketed as the Teddy Bear's Holiday Express trains are running Tuesday-Thursday until 11th August.
