Aka The Return of Genghis Khan. And here they are again, our old friends the CV19 viruses! This lot are the latest soooon-come variety and they come all the way from far, far Mongolia, riding their shaggy yaks and singing their wild viral songs. Funny thing, these “variants: the South African, the Brazilian, the Indian, the Nigerian (and, of course, the super-evil Chinese) and so on. All of them from that dreadful “abroad” place, except a UK variant that is hardly ever mentioned. I surmise that the next variety will be from Yorkshire and that also will be classed as “foreign” for it’s well know that amongst the “Real English”, anything or anybody not from the Home Counties and the Cotswolds, counts as a foreigner (frequently called bloody foreigner). Oh, well. Have a lovely weekend.

Yes folks, it’s that crappy time of the year wot comes every couple of months or thereabouts: it’s pick on China/Russia/Iran/Cuba/Venezuela, or any other country that refuses to obey the diktats of the Saviour of the World. And I woz finkin’ to meself Dodo, me old mucker, it’s far too long since you’ve had a rant, big or small, on this vex subject. And lo! whilst browsing the free stickers storehouse that came with my latest toy app, I came across a clip-art panda that was screaming “Rescue me!”. So I did. (Thinking back, I remembered that I do have a tradition of sorts of using pandas -clip-art or otherwise- in this “aren’t politicians ghastly?” context.) So here’s the young beastie. Not so much scared as utterly bored and more than a little irritated. Pandas are placid creatures. They like peace & quiet, the good life, bamboo forests, lazing in the sun, falling off logs gracefully and making more pandas. As for the Chinese themselves, it’ll be a cold day in hell before they are frightened by the bully-boy tactics of the Deluded Hegemon but I’m sure that they are as bored as the pandas. As for me (myself and my 371 alter egos), my poor old tits can hardly bear the weight that crushes them any time I check the indentured meeja on this subject. Yes, I know, I should keep away from the Guardian and El País et al. But...but… an efficient survivor needs to keep pace with how the enemy thinks, innit? Anyway, alegría, alegría, the weekend is near. Have a spiffing one and stay as sane as circumstances will permit. Love and bamboo shots.

A short digression on Pepe Marchena and his delicious invention, the Colombiana. English Flamenco pundits, who like to pontificate on something pretty remote from their emotional frame of reference, are given to demean Marchena and aver without room for doubt or argument, that he cannot be considered a “Flamenco” and that his creation is not even a genuine “palo”, a “canción de ida y vuelta” (yes, look it up by all means). I like to assert, with great glee: To Hell with English Flamenco pundits. A pox on them all.

Language matters! For the Nth time: corrupt the language = corrupt the mind = corrupt the behaviours. Today it’s “probably” or “almost certainly”, tomorrow will be “your neighbour is a controversial (= evil), dangerous witch/terrorist” and out will come the torches and the pitchforks and the public lynchings. And that nice person next door, who normally would never hurt a fly, will be carried away by the tide of rabies and indulge in such abhorrent actions that would frighten the very Great Old Ones our of their dogmatic slumbers.
But it’s no good going on like this. The Holy Guardian (or it twin sister the Daily Mail, or the Sacred New York Times) and the BBC, or the rest of the whorish indentured MSM will propagate this kind of piffle and most people will believe it because...well, they are “prestigious” and “balanced” and “impartial” and they always check their facts (via the highly reputable Bellingcat, of course) and they always, always tell the truth, don’t they?

An unexpected stardust blizzard hits the Not-So-Bad-Lands and causes an abnormal meeting of creatures: the Red Badger, tutelary spirit of the groves, meets an absconded giant anteater. Much puzzlement, initial confusion and eventually spontaneous merrymaking ensues. Tea and coffee are dispensed by the (invisible) dryads and all is fluffy. Have a lovely week.
PS. "Auntie" Fran is a recent find. I found her blog whist surfing desultorily. And what a find it was! Anyway, she likes anteaters. I had this very, very, very old one gathering e-dust in my Cretaceous HD so I though I'd give it a new lease of digital life and a companion. Red Badgers make very good companions, don'tyouthinkso?

I wanted to do something quite different. Perhaps a nice, nasty & incisive, finely tuned ad hominem attack –plenty to choose, as usual. But this came out instead. More like a laconic, generalized ad humanitas barb. Well, I gave up the illusion that I am in control of my creatures a long time ago. They are in charge. I don’t make them, they make me. Also, there is something about using the two Android Adobes (Photoshop Sketch and Draw) that seems to beget snakes (and squiggles). So here they are, a small clutch of profoundly shocked snakes commenting on the general state of things. I’ve got a lovely bunch of squiggles in the backburner. Sooooon come. In Memoriam. Julio Anguita. May 2020. The good die young they say. The good oldies die, too. Briefly, the good die. Whilst the bastards seem to thrive like venomous weeds. Well, probably Entropy IS the Mother of Us All indeed.
Two little Haida birds have come to join me in my grief. Another light gone from my increasingly darker sky. Another lucid mind, another clean heart gone up the cypress path. Another twin soul leaves the fraught stage. And I here, like a lemon, feeling once more like a serial orphan. Fortunately he’s leaving behind a substantial heritage. We shall not see his like again but with a bit of luck we’ll see pretty good approximations. And, as I never tire of saying, perhaps is a good thing he’s gone now, before things get so unbelievably ugly that even the stoutest of hearts might feel tempted to throw the sponge, or pawn the towel, or whatever it is that one does when ones gives up an curls up and croaks. Personally I often have the feeling that maybe it is time my subatomic particles joined the club of the Dearly Departed. And then my particles, and Rosa’s particles and don Julio’s particles’ and William “Billy the Kid”’s particles and my friend Ash’s particles can get together and have a good gossip and play Race you to Alpha Centauri! games with the neutrinos. Losing games, I know, but it’s the though, the intention wot counts.
Goodbye, don Julito, darling mine. I raise my glass and my fist to you. You live, even in death.

Still, it’s the road you picked for yourself and that’s bound to attract strange fellow travellers, be it only because it’s a road not over-frequented.
