They don’t make film for these cameras any more, and I never shot with one in the first place. So, I have no idea what kind of film it was or what it looked like, or whether it came in a cartridge or pack. I built up the edge of the film plane a little bit by cutting some thin strips of cardboard to glue along where the “negative” area was. I’m pretty sure that, since it was an instant film camera, the film didn’t rest right on those ridges. Most likely a little way off them to achieve the right focus. I used two thinknesses of cardboard on both the top and bottom where the negative sat, but I should have used only one thickness on each side, because the focus is off. The area where the film rides was also slightly smaller than the height of the film gate, so I had to trim a little of the film to get it to fit inside the camera. I ended up cutting through the sprocket holes on one side to get it to fit. But, I got it to produce a picture.
I didn’t think I’d ever get to use this camera, because they haven’t made the special type of film it takes in probably 50 years. But, I noticed the shutter worked, even without batteries, so I cut down some 120 film, positioned it carefully where I thought it should be, (in total darkness, of course!), and then shot with it. For the first attempt, I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Now I can mark off another camera in my collection that I’ve used. My goal is to be able to say I’ve used every camera in my collection - all 267 of them.

Taken with my hundred and twenty-sixth camera. This image is not cropped, I simply scanned it to all the edges. It turned out the same dimensions as a 35mm negative, so I suppose that’s the shape the original instant prints must have been.

Camera: Polaroid Land Camera Swinger Model 20
Film: Kodak Tri-X 400, cut-down120 sized B&W (expired 05/2012)
Date: June 30th, 2023, 12.47 p.m.
Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A.

Developing chemicals at 68 degrees F
Adox Adonal – 14 minutes (1:50 – 2 tsps. of Adonal and 500 ml of water)
Water rinse – 1 minute (to keep the chemicals clean)
Ilford Ilfostop stopbath - 1 minute
Water rinse - 1 minute
Kodak Kodafix fixer - 9 minutes
Water rinse – 1 minute
