Best known as a TV chef, James Martin has turned his hand to flying and motor racing and has his own band. At his show in Portsmouth, the band were in the audience but he was joined on stage by one of the guitarists for numbers at the beginning and end of the show. They covered 'Start Me Up' by The Rolling Stones and Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing'. The foot is another story entirely.

On this autumn Wednesday, Spitfires.com Supermarine Spitfire TR Mk IX SM520/G-ILDA did not fly at Solent Airport for technical reasons. At around 4pm, in the gathering gloom, it could be seen outside Bournemouth Avionics, with the engine cowlings off and doing an engine run.

It was at once satisfying, a little emotional and anticlimactic to reach the Sovereign Light Café in Bexhill-on-Sea after countless plays of the beautiful, eponymous Keane song and a tiresome journey east of Lewes. I was happy to have no people in the shot but disappointed that the east facing fascia appears to have gone.

Erected on 25 August 2021 at the north east corner of the Daedalus area (Lee on Solent/Fareham), a sculpture of the eponymous figure of Greek mythology was designed by Nigel Searle and created by blacksmith Peter Clutterbuck.

Whilst I am a definite admirer, it divided local opinion and generated a lot of misinformed references to angels. It is also misrepresented as 'a gate guardian' although it is not not at any present day gate or entrance to Daedalus nor, as far as I know, to the former Royal Naval Air Station.

Closed in June 2018 and replaced by modern buildings of the same name on a site a little further south, Stoneywood School in Aberdeen stood empty until mid-2021 when demolition began. The view from Prospect Terrace of the abandoned playground is quite evocative.

I have not been drawn into the Harry Potter world but the Palace Theatre, Cambridge Circus (London) has had some striking displays above its portico over the years and the current example is no exception. I find it haunting and unsettling and have produced this image as a metaphor for the modern age, an age in which the world is a hard place to bring children into. What is our legacy to those who will survive us?
