As on the 10th March 2022, the 7-day case rate to 5th March 2022 for my local area in SW Northumberland [Haltwhistle & Bardon Mill] was the lowest it had been for over a year.
Copied off the dashboard [from 3 cases only].
Unfortunately, it only lasted for the one day, as what I think was the second Omicron [BA.2] wave arrived and people stopped taking even basic precautions ..

Combination of antibodies derived from vaccinations, including the autumn booster campaign and a minor contribution from infection.
ie in all tested cohorts above 60 years of age, antibodies in at least 98.5% of samples and up to 99.2% in the 60 to 64 cohort.

The second Omicron variant [BA.2] seems to be producing a ripple of increased deaths, hopefully the better summer weather will knock these down further.
[Also, the spring booster program, despite being more limited in scope, should - hopefully - soon be having an affect]

The rate of increase in numbers vaccinated has slowed significantly, especially for the first dose.
The take up of the boosters is still continuing, but still has room for improvement.
Note: that the over 75s, care home residents and a small number of other clinically extremely vulnerable people are being offered a second "spring" booster vaccine.

UK now has had at least 21 million people with covid-19 infections, many of the recent wave are cases of Omicron, specifically the BA.2 variant.
{the number of possible re-infections is fairly insignificant, also a lot of people are either not testing or not reporting the results.

So much for the "pandemic is over" and "get back to work, you plebs" attitude of "living with covid".
IMHO, the tory government's attitude stinks - as in removing support for isolation & free testing, plus reducing mask / social distancing mandates to the level of advice.
[Omicron may be "mild" in the vaccinated, but it still kills the unvaccinated, some of whom can't, for medical reasons, take the jabs and have other vulnerabilities, I deliberately exclude those choosing to stay unprotected for spurious & "religious" dogma].
I also worry that such high case rates will allow the cv-19 virus to continue to mutate, and new variants can as easily be more severe as the trend to be less severe.

Whilst deaths - any death - are always a tragedy for the family involved, the picture has been evolving, As treatments & vaccinations have been implemented, the number of deaths due to / involving covid-19 have been significantly reduced in recent months.
Last summer [2021] and in the first wave peak there were a considerable number of excess deaths, not directly linked to cv-19. I suspect that the pandemic had caused other problems for people that should have been using the NHS, which has been under significant excessive pressure since March 2020.

Omicron BA.2 is highly infectious ... and the relative lack of masking etc is actively permitting - if not actually encouraging - transmission.
The huge number of cases, despite vaccinations & drug treatments, even with the actual disease being less severe, is leading to high numbers in hospitals and well over 125 deaths a day.
