About 2 hours drive south of Muscat is this beautiful deserted beach - at least it was at this time - on the northeast coast of the Gulf of Oman.

You have to look for it but there is a white wall at the end of the beach!

Cabourg (France) – Cette dame qui s’est aventurée au bord de l’eau tente de rejoindre la piste cyclable sans se faire rattraper par la marée montante. Si elle avait pu enfourcher sa bicyclette, l’affaire aurait été réglée en quelques coups de pédales. Quelle idée de vouloir faire du vélo sur une plage de sable fin ? Sans parler des vestiges de coquillages qui pourraient causer des lésions aux pneus. Finalement, elle est arrivée à bon port.

Houlgate (France) – Cette photo est issue d’une carte mémoire dont j’avais archivé les photos sans vraiment les regarder. Ce jour-là, seules quelques photos de famille avaient de l’intérêt pour moi. Autrefois, même pour aller chercher du pain au bout de la rue, j’emportais mon appareil photo (argentique) au cas où un scoop se présente. Pour un journaliste, ça se comprend. Même si le scoop n’est pas toujours au rendez-vous. Faire des photos sans prétention, comme celle-ci, permet d’entretenir les automatismes. Cette habitude, qui m’a tenue quelques décennies, remonte à juillet 1980, lors de ma première semaine de stage à l’agence de Trouville de Paris-Normandie. On m’envoie faire une photo-légende sur un concours de châteaux de sable sur la plage pour boucher un coin de page. Devenir grand reporter, ça se mérite. Je suis revenu avec des photos d’Alain Delon, de Dalila Di Lazzaro et Jacques Deray qui tournaient une scène du film "Trois hommes à abattre". Personne n’avait été prévenu. Le lendemain, mon article et mes photos faisaient la une des trois quotidiens du groupe de presse. Le rédacteur en chef, à qui je disais que j’avais eu de la chance, m’a répondu que le journaliste qui n’a jamais de chance doit changer de métier. Phrase que j’ai souvent réutilisée. Et la chance, il faut aller la chercher. Un rédacteur, à qui la chance se présente, aura toujours la possibilité de l’exploiter. Dans les mêmes circonstances, le photographe qui n’a pas son boîtier aurait intérêt à changer de métier. Mais ça, c’était autrefois. Maximilien Lamy, éditeur au service photo de l’AFP en vacances en Gironde a réalisé il y a quelques jours des photos extraordinaires avec son smartphone. L’image la plus diffusée représente deux touristes sous un parasol, sur fond d’incendie. Elle est tellement surréaliste que j’ai cru qu’elle avait été générée par l’IA. Moi qui refuse de faire des photos avec mon téléphone, d’autant que je l’oublie une fois sur deux, je vais peut-être changer mon point de vue… Sur les téléphones.

The tide has turned leaving calm water on a hot day, this is Quay West adjacent to the harbour,on the Bristol Channel Coast at Minehead in Somerset, the large white building on the sandy and popular section of the bay is a part of a major holiday complex,

The lower lighthouse (on Stilts) at Burnham on Sea, in Bridgwater Bay,
Low tide when this was taken however on any level of spring tide the whole area is covered by the sea,
this is due to the huge tidal range in the Bristol channel (up to 15m )

Apologies for my absence this week, had major software issues which resulted me reloading the whole catalogue, not complete yet but well underway!
