This bridge was constructed in 1903 as a single track railway bridge.  It also carried a single track road which vehicles were permitted across when not in use by the railway.  In 1966 the railway was closed and the bridge is still used by vehicles with a track for cyclists and pedestrians.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Beneath the bridge where the Firth of Lorn falls below the water level of Loch Etive freshwater rapids  known as the Falls of Lora are created by the ebb tide.  &lt;br /&gt;

Wells Cathedral is visible in the background, accessed by way of the arched gateway shown in the picture which is known as Penniless Porch.  Built around 1450 by Bishop Thomas Beckington the porch was named for the beggars who plied their trade there.&lt;br /&gt;

Best viewed large I think and I have added two PiPs, firstly a close up of the floral displays with swans painted on them, and the second a real one!.  The swans at the Bishops Palace in Wells famously ring the bell to be fed!&lt;/div&gt;</description>
