Vor Jahren machte ich einmal Fotos von Katzenjungen, die zusammen mit ihrer Mutter, die wir Nera nannten, zu uns kamen. Die Jungen wurden alle verschenkt, Nera lebt bis heute bei uns. Eines dieser Fotos beeindruckt mich bis heute. Ich habe es gerade nachbearbeitet, weil ich die Augen so faszinierend finde, und heute veröffentlicht. Ich hoffe, das Foto erfreut auch euch .

Years ago, I once took photos of some kittens that came to us together with their mother, whom we called Nera. All the kittens were given away, but Nera still lives with us to this day. One of those photos still fascinates me even now. I’ve just re-edited it because I find the eyes so captivating, and I published it today. I hope you’ll enjoy the photo too.

Near Dreki hut at the foot of Askja volcano in the middle of the Icelandic highland desert (the light coloured stuff is pumice from the 1875 Askja eruption). It's always fun to come across such signposts seemingly in the middle of nowhere!

For the 125km to Nýidalur you would probably need at least 6-7 hours in a 4x4 with high clearance as this F-road goes through lava fields and various fords. The devastating Febr. 2011 quake and various aftershocks had flattened vast parts of Christchurch's City Centre. In late 2012 much of it was still in the Red Zone and fenced off. The collapsed spire of the Cathedral had been demolished and a debate about what to do with the church had started. Only in late 2017 a decision was reached to rebuild the Cathedral, with a narrow majority of 55%.

Strokkur geyser erupts about every 10 minutes to a height of ca. 20m (see inset clickable photo).

It lies in an area of silica sinter deposit in Haukadalur geothermal field, the remnant of Geysir volcanic system which consists of a basaltic central volcano and rhyolitic lava domes on the southern end of Langjökull fissure swarm.

The big Geysir (which gave all geyers its name) is nearby and has erupted twice already this year after a long dormancy- it seems things are hotting up;-)
