1911 kam der Schwanberg in Castell’schen Besitz. Alexander Graf von Faber-Castell, Sohn des Fürsten Wolfgang zu Castell-Rüdenhausen und Ehemann der Eigentümerin des weltbekannten Nürnberger Bleistiftunternehmens A.W. Faber-Castell kaufte das Schloss mit dem umliegenden Grundbesitz. Er renovierte es und ließ 1919-1921 nordöstlich des Schlosses den Park anlegen, an dessen Ende sich das Mausoleum befindet, in dem er und seine zweite Frau Margit Gräfin v. Zedtwitz von Moraván und Duppau beigesetzt sind. Ihr Sohn Radulf Graf zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, der heutige Eigentümer, verpachtete das Schloß 1957 der Communität Casteller Ring. Dieser evangelische Frauenorden führt im Schloss und in den davor neu errichteten Gebäuden das “Geistliche Zentrum Schwanberg” als Tagungsstätte.

1911 the Schwanberg came into Castell's possession. Alexander Graf von Faber-Castell, son of Prince Wolfgang zu Castell-Rüdenhausen and husband of the owner of the world-famous Nuremberg pencil company A.W. Faber-Castell bought the castle and the surrounding land. He renovated it and in 1919-1921 laid out the park to the north-east of the castle, at the end of which is the mausoleum where he and his second wife Margit Countess v. Zedtwitz of Moraván and Duppau are buried in the mausoleum. Their son Radulf Graf zu Castell-Rüdenhausen, the present owner, leased the castle to the Casteller Ring Community in 1957. This Protestant women's order runs the "Geistliches Zentrum Schwanberg" (Schwanberg Spiritual Centre) as a conference centre in the castle and in the buildings newly erected in front of it.

In einem fränkischen Weinberg am Fuß des Steigerwalds fand ich diese Gerste-Mohn Pflanzengemeinschaft. Die Gerste wurde zur Begrünung der Weinbergszeilen angebaut, der Klatschmohn entstand wohl aus der Samenbank des Bodens, ein Zeichen, dass nicht mit Herbiziden behandelt wurde.

In a Franconian vineyard at the foot of the Steigerwald I found this barley poppy plant community. The barley was cultivated to green the vineyard rows, the poppy seed probably originated from the seed bank of the soil, a sign that it was not treated with herbicides.

Von meiner kurzen Reise nach Berlin (Sohn, Schwiegertochter und Enkelchen besuchen) bin ich wieder zurück und möchte eine Reihe von Sommerbildern beginnen. Diese bezaubernde Gruppe von Glockenblumen (Campanula persicifolia) fand ich im Juni auf einer kleinen Lichtinsel mitten in einem Buchen-Hochwald.

I am back from my short trip to Berlin (visiting my son, daughter-in-law and grandchild) and would like to start a series of summer pictures. I found this charming group of bellflowers (Campanula persicifolia) in June on a small island of light in the middle of a high beech forest.

Drei bis vier Wochen früher als in Normaljahren sind 2018 in Deutschland die Weintrauben bereits reif. Die Traubenlese hat schon längst begonnen. Im Bild vollreife gesunde Silvaner-Trauben, die einen ausgezeicheten Jahrgang erwarten lassen. Die Aufnahme entstand in Castell, Weinlage Hohnart.

Three to four weeks earlier than in normal years, the grapes are already ripe in Germany in 2018. The grape harvest has already begun. The picture shows fully ripe healthy Silvaner grapes, which promise an excellent vintage. The picture was taken in Castell, vineyard location Hohnart .

Der Russische Bär (wegen der roten und gelben Farbe auch Spanische Flagge genannt) ist ein tagaktiver Nachtfalter, welcher sich gerne auf Wasserdost aufhält, der auf Lichtinseln im Wald blüht. Die Falter sind nicht häufig, können aber lokal auch zahlreicher sein. Die Aufnahme entstand im Steigerwald in der Nähe von Castell.

The Jersey tiger is a day flying moth that likes to be on hemp-agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum), blooming on islands of light in the forest. The moths are not common, but can also be more numerous locally.

In the vineyards of Castell/Bavaria the wild tulips (Tulipa sylvestris) are blooming.
