It was for a long time New Chip On The Block and became Fin & Bone in 2016. That venture was fairly short lived and the property remained closed for a very long while whilst various rumours and speculations emerged about its future. Eventually, in the first half of 2018, there were signs of refurbishment and, later, the notice which can be seen in this picture appeared previewing an opening date. However, in spite of occasional evidence of work inside, that date and another of 31 August 2018 have come and gone and the handwritten notice is now so faded as to be illegible. Apart from the recent appearance of the sign and the scar left by the removal of a sign above the adjacent window, there has continued to be little obvious progress. This has all gone on for many months and it will be a tall order to live up to the boldly optimistic new name of the shop as it tries to regain a customer base which for a long while has had to pursue the limited alternatives in the local area.
The chip shop in Anstice Court, Lee on Solent has been New Chip On The Block since at least 2010 but underwent a change of ownership in the summer of 2016. The dates on the photographs mark the change to Fin & Bone which had opened about two weeks before my first proper opportunity to photograph it.
